Year Five - Anniversary Gifts

I honestly cannot believe it's been almost five years since our wedding. This year we will be celebrating our anniversary at a new destination to both of us, Amangiri Resort in Utah. I am so excited to be in the middle of no where with my love and have some down time just the two of us. Since we love to gift one another little treats on our anniversary we have always tried to stick with the traditional themes assigned to each year of marriage, this year is a real doozy, wood! We originally discussed investing in a tiny house somewhere in New England that could be a retreat away from the city for ourselves. However when we discussed everything we would want in this so called little house, we realized we wanted a whole lot more then a little house could hold. So while I can't yet reveal the gift I am giving my guy as it's part experience and part keepsake {I will share after I gift my husband} I thought I would share some other wood gift ideas for guys and gals.

Holiday Gift Guide - For Your Best Friend

As I have gotten older my circle of friends has definitely gotten smaller. I have learned {sometimes the hard way} to surround yourself only with the people who make you happy, bring a positive light into your life and are there for you the same way you are for them. I am a big believer in quality over quantity so I put together a little gift guide for inspiration to let your favorite friend know how much they mean to you!

Gifting season is upon us and the challenge of finding the perfect present will quickly cause stress for some.  While there are a slew of gifting companies out there on the internet, I have even shared a few of my favorites here & here...oh & created my own here & here. There are however only a few companies that create gifts with serious style. Enter BOXFOX for perfectly curated gift boxes for all different occasions. I love the brand names they are including, the mix of products for each situation and of course the packaging is simply beautiful which is always a bonus in my book. I can't wait to order one or two to send to the people I love this holiday season and beyond.

Gifting

I love giving gifts, searching for the perfect item, wrapping it up pretty and of course the act of giving all makes me so very happy. I was really inspired by this company's beautiful packaging and knew I wanted to put together a little basket for couple that has been so good to us. Sometimes it's fun to give a gift for no reason at all but to let someone know how much you appreciate them. I went with a theme of a "date night in" which included all the essentials for a relaxing night at home with your favorite person. Some items were picked up during our travels on Nantucket as well as some local Boston shops and online favorites. All the details to make one for yourself or a friend are below.

I decided that finding the perfect vessel to hold all the treats would be my starting point. I knew I wanted to do a basket and when I saw this market basket I quickly scooped it up not only for it's awesome color but ability to hold a lot with a sturdy handle. From there on out, I collected items that coordinated with the aqua color all while staying within the "date night in" theme. So super soft towels, a delicious smelling candle, gem shaped soaps, bubble bath and salts were all in order. I then used a piece of lace gift wrap  to line the basket as well as some filler to arrange all the items at different heights so you could see everything clearly. You can shop everything below. Happy Gifting!

The Gift Closet

While shopping in Boston's hip South End neighborhood one day, one of my dear friends mom mentioned an idea of a gift closet in a home where you could keep a few trinkets on hand to gift to friends and family as small special occasions took place. Don't get me wrong, I love to shop for a gift that is perfect for each individual recipient but I thought this was a genius idea for small gestures and was so excited to put together a little round up of some ideas I had. All the items below are under $25 and suit all different tiny celebrations in life or just a simple sign of kindness to someone who may need a pick me up. To make the gift a bit more personal to the receiver just add a thoughtful card {my favorite part of a gift} and some chic gift wrap {which is always excellent to have on hand as well}.

Untitled #755

one - Is there anything that smells better then fresh basil on a home cooked meal? I absolutely love it in everything from cocktails to savory dishes and beyond. This seed kit {also available in mint & rosemary} is such a great gift for the home chef or gardener. It also perfectly pairs with this petite vintage planter or these colorful mini vases that are $8!

two - Candles are always a great go to gift for new homes or just because your thinking of them. I love giving them with a cute pack of matches {this scent is my favorite & always burning in our home}.

three - Bringing flowers to a party just from the market also brings work to the recipient. Add an affordable vase that only needs a few buds to make a great gift. Also love this trio of a similar style.

four - The packaging along on this gift is reason to give to someone a little bit of luxury for $20.

five - A new home gift can be something small & budget friendly. These adorable mason jar salt & pepper shakers are under $10. I also love the mini oil & vinegar set too, crazy for $3!

six - Newly engaged gal? This pretty pink dish is a great place to store her new sparkler when she isn't wearing it. Also available in a square shape.

seven - A set of coasters tied in simple ribbon are always nice to bring when someone is hosting you for dinner and we all know it goes great with wine! A wine tote and or trivet also is a great option.

eight - Terrariums are my kinda plant, low maintenance & look great. These work in so many rooms to an outdoor deck for a little living decor.

nine - Someone have a new home or new car? How about a chic key chain to hang those new keys on!

Holiday Gift Guide - For The Kiddos

I absolutely love shopping for my nieces year round but the holidays really give me reasoning to go more overboard then usual. However as they get older so does the gift giving, toys suddenly don't have the same appeal and picking out clothes is something they like to do on their own. I still give it the good old college effort and have put together a little round up of gifts for kids of all ages and below that a list of current sales and cute clothing items to score before they are gone on black Friday.

Holiday Gift Guide - For The Pets

Yesterday as I finished packing up the car to head to NYC, I stepped in dog poop not once but TWICE and ruined a pair of my favorite flats. Which I dwelled on for my four hour drive to the big apple. As I called to tell my my mom the story, I instead I got my dad on the line who kept things in perspective by telling me "that's hilarious, wait till I tell Khloe & Kaiser". Which I turned into an opportunity to start brainstorming what I am getting those two loves of my life. So whether you are gifting your faithful companion or someone who has a beloved pet, there are tons of amazing presents to give to those furry friends of ours or those who are pet obsessed like moi.
Untitled #702

one - John & I had a pet fish together when we first started dating, it's home was definitely not as chic as this one, maybe we should give it a try again!
two - I may not be a cat fancier but this scratcher is super chic for $50!
three - Calling all hipster dogs...this bone zone hat will help keep those ears warm all winter long!
four - Make travel on the go with your pet a breeze in this cute carrier.
five - Dress up your furry baby with this cute bow tie over the collar.
six - Merry Woofmas to all & to all a good night!
seven - Mac & cheese in the form of a biscuit for pooches and how can you resist those tartan tins.
eight - Travel made easy with these foldable bowls.

Engaged

Morning lovelies...I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and soaked up some of that warm weather that finally graced us here in the Northeast. We are still in NY spending some time with our families. It has been a wonderful weekend celebrating forty five years of marriage for my parents as well as Mother's Day for my amazing mother. Then even more good news was spread amongst the family when my cousin Chris {you may remember them from this post} proposed to his lady. So as they start their new engagement journey I thought I would put together a fun little gift guide of ideas to gift the happy couple. Congratulations Chris & Lauryn - enjoy every second of this blissful time!

Untitled #634
one & two - The Newlywed's Cookbook is filled with modern recipes that will give you lots of inspiration for date nights in. It's perfectly paired with a chic Mr. & Mrs. cutting board.

three & four - Flowers are the standard protocol for gifting during this blissful time. How about you give some pretty stems in a stylish vase instead of the usual online floral arrangements.

five - A wedding planner is essential for the busy bride to be and everything Sugar Paper does is perfection so it's guaranteed to be useful & loved.

six - Every gift needs a pretty congratulatory note.

seven - A bottle of vino for every anniversary in a personalized wine crate is the gift that keeps on giving.

eight - After the wedding the happy couple will be off on their honeymoon. Send them off in style with "happily ever after" passport covers.

nine - Mr. & Mrs. glasses are fun for the couple who love the cheeky home decor.

ten & eleven - It's a time of celebrating and bubbly is always in order! A limited edition animal print bottle and a chic ice bucket make the perfect pair.

twelve - What bride wouldn't love subscriptions to some wedding magazines??? Martha Stewart Weddings is definitely a favorite along with Real Simple Weddings.

thirteen - A pretty place to store your sparkle.

fourteen - A gold rimmed tray in a modern shape is great for the couple that loves to entertain.

fifteen - Whether you live in the city or the burbs the romantic element of a picnic is always appreciated. This basket is fully loaded so you don't forget a single thing.

sixteen - I couldn't resist something that could be monogrammed with the couples new initials. This trio of silver cups are great for holding a variety of items like flowers, desk items or your toiletries in the bathroom.

Holiday Gift Guide - For The Foodie

This week I thought I would take a break from the usual sip & snack recipes and instead share some great gifts of the edible variety. I mean the holidays after all are the time to indulge and the winter fashions allow you to disguise an extra pound or two. So below I thought I would put together a selection of delicious treats that will be happily consumed by whomever you gift them to.
The best part is no cooking required!
Untitled #546

one - Shopping local is key to keeping our neighbors in business and I personally adore the Boston boutique Olives & Grace for sourcing other local business for their artesian products. The best part is you can create a box of your favorite treats and create a truly personalized gift.

two - Macaron of the month club - yes please! I adore Dana's Bakery for it's unique flavors, neon macaron's and creative gifting & classes!

three - Tis the time of the year for everything peppermint flavored and hands down my addiction to the William Sonoma peppermint bark has me wanting to gift this to myself.

four - With a name like "studmuffin desserts" how can you resist. This West Village bakery provide petite desserts in darling packaging. I personally would go for the cookie variety but I feel confident you wouldn't be let down sampling anything they make.

five - My family and members and I go absolutely insane for these Montana made caramels. They are ridiculously decadent and every single flavor is ridiculously delicious. My man favors the espresso and I go crazy over the celtic sea salt. Get them & thank me later :)

six - Popcorn is always a great snack for watching a holiday movie so why not try this crunchy treat in some tasty new flavors.

seven & eight - Gift your guy an awesome beverage crate filled with some delicious craft beer from Urban Grape. I love the idea of giving something new to try and luckily this shop offers the ability to buy bottles individually so you can try a bunch without a commitment to the typical six pack.

nine - Squirrel Brand Nuts have amped up the game in tasty snacks with flavors like Italian Black Truffle Almonds, Creme Brulee Almonds & Fleur-De-Sel Pistachios to just name a few are perfect for snacking with your craft beer or favorite vino.

ten - You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream. So honestly, tell me who wouldn't want a  tasting of some small batch luxury ice cream???

Holiday Gift Guide - For the Fella's

The men are severely outnumbered by the woman in our family so I only have three guys to shop for this year. However every year I still feel stumped on what to get them as their needs and wants are much more simplified then their female counterparts. A few gift ideas for the fellas that I love so much are listed below & later on today some treats for mans best friend will be shared.
Untitled #543

one - Men love things that are compact & convenient so this iPhone case/wallet serves a duel purpose with style and at an awesome price point {$40}!

two - Pretty much everything I said in prezzie number one is true for this handy pocket knife. I am especially loving wood finish versus the typical stainless steal.

three - Help keep your fella groomed with ease with a masculine yet compact kit that holds everything he needs to take care of his good looks.

four - Leave it to Ralph Lauren to make dressing with style a breeze with their layered mens fashions. I personally love a sweater and button down shirt combo and this one is just right!

five - Listening to tunes just got a whole lot more stylish. The masculine dark green color and the retro look of these headphones is a double win your special guy.

six - Scotch Scotch Scotch - I love Scotch! Why not give your anchorman some decadent dark chocolate and single malt scotch flavored candies. The accompanying flask is perfect for filling with their favorite cordial.

seven - I am totally digging this modern look of a classic color combination of gold and brown on a watch. The amped up style is perfect for a guy who can appreciate a good looking accessory.

eight - A rustic styled iPhone dock is perfect for your outdoorsy loving guy.

nine - Backgammon is big with the men in my house. What other game calls for a glass of wine and a cigar??? This chic leather set is not only good looking but also portable!

ten - My guy is all too often on the road. So a great weekender or a garment bag is a necessity.

eleven - Bring on the Preppy with the Barbour brand. I adore their classic outwear looks that I think work great on any guy. We picked up a similar style of the above coat for my guy earlier this fall and I swoon every time he wears it. I am pretty much in love with everything this company makes.

twelve - Decor seems a bit of an oddity to give to a man but I love the idea of giving an object for their desk or office. This jack can be used as a paperweight and or door stop or look sleek as it sits on a shelf with a pile of books.

thirteen - A great shoe that works from day to night is key. This boot oozes good looks and comfort.

fourteen - I couldn't resist a Boston themed gift for my guy, especially since he is all too often on the go. These petite toiletries are perfect for refreshing after a long day of travel.

fifteen - At the end of a long day we all need a place to drop our things and know exactly where they are the next day. This leather catchall is perfect for holding your money clip, watch and keys.

I Want Candy...

Confession, I am a HUGE candy ADDICT {Exhibit A & B}. Give me gummy, taffy or pretty much anything sugar coated and you have won a place in my heart.  I can pass by chocolate, cakes, ice cream and avoid the temptation of a taste no problem but if you dangle some sweet gummy bears, swedish fish or laffy taffy in my face I will pretty much revert to childlike tactics till it's in my possession. With all of that said, you can imagine my extreme bliss when I stumbled upon Sugarfina, a company dedicated to confections to not only taste good but also super pretty to look at. I adore their stylish take on the clever packaging {i.e the bento box}, using seasonal ingredients and of course their custom treats for your special event. To say my online shopping cart is overloaded during the writing of this post is a tremendous understatement but hey, it's research right??? Check out a few of my favorite treats below!

How adorable is the styling of these candies. I am completely smitten with the displaying of chocolate covered berries in a farmers market basket, such a whimsical take on the traditional candy dish.

How cute are these bento boxes!? One of each please.

This tasting bento of all adult flavors is screaming buy me Heidi!!!

Candy & Cocktails combination, ummmm - yes please!

NEED these olive painted almonds for my bar cart. Perfect for entertaining and serving martinis.

The most adorable gift sets for every occasion

Finally the crème de la crème and something that will certainly be on my Christmas list to Santa - The Tasting Club, where you get a new sample sent to you every month! I die.

The Wedding Chicks

During my eighteen month engagement there were many daily wedding blogs that I had to browse before I even opened my work email. They provided such amazing inspiration for our big day that I every so often revisit some of them to see what's new in the world of wedding. One of the ones that I spent some significant time on was The Wedding Chicks. Whether it was a styled shoot or a real wedding it was always a pretty place to get my daily dose of everything wedding. When I recently stumbled upon their shop on their blog I quickly bookmarked for revisiting to share with you all. Check out some of my favorite goodies that are deigned by the folks behind the blog!

Gifted - Part Two

Last week I featured a fun and simple DIY for gifting something small for the kitchen. This week is along the same lines but without any doing it yourself involved. I love pretty much anything monogrammed and thought I would present another fun idea for a unique gift for a housewarming, showering a bride to be or just for the hostess with the mostess. This time the rolling pin already has it's dipped painted edges saving the efforts of having to paint yourself but giving a plain old rolling pin wouldn't do. Wrapping in a monogram towel with beautiful grossgrain ribbon & a coordinating marble slab...yes that would be just fine...Check out all the pretty details below!

gifted

I love giving gifts, everything from the brainstorming on what to get, the joy of shopping, and then the best part the actual giving to that special person. Start to finish it all makes me giddy. This leads to today's post on a little gift giving inspiration along with an easy breezy DIY. Back in New York where I grew up, most wedding showers had a wishing well where you brought a small domestic token for the bride to be. I always gave something off the registry but I love the idea of gifting something a little more unique and thoughtful. This also could work for a wonderful housewarming or hostess gift or even a favor at a stylish soiree.

mark off the area you wish to paint
{don't spray the area that will be exposed to food}

I held the area that wasn't getting painted with a paper towel and sprayed the opposite end till dry

wrap with ribbon

or tie the ends with twine

Not quite ready to DIY? No worries, lots of stylish finds are below to add this look to your home!

The First Five Years

Anniversaries are a wonderful thing, a benchmark of time that you get to celebrate with your partner in crime but before I was married these annual days would come and go without much thought. That all changed after we said I do. I think the themed years definitely amped up the fun for me on getting the creative juices going on my gift giving.  On our first wedding anniversary we returned to Newport, RI where we tied the knot.  That year I got crafty with the paper theme and I gave my husband a giant piñata in the shape of his iphone filled with gift cards to his favorite stores, favorite candy as well as some vintage papers of inventors he admired growing up. Most recently we celebrated our second wedding anniversary in Nantucket, MA where I gave him a weekend bag that matched his current luggage set. Who knows what will come next year when leather is our theme, one thing I do guarantee is that he will have it easier then me. With anniversaries so recently on my mind, I assembled a little gift guide with the themes I plan on following to provide some inspiration for other couples who are on their way through the first five years of marriage. Happy Gifting!

one - art is a difficult thing to find for men, this is exactly why I love these handmade gyotaku pieces where an actual fish is painted and rubbed onto paper creating unique pieces for your guy.
two - a classic weekender bag for all your getaways will have your guy traveling in style
three - a leather backgammon case or poker set is perfect for your guys easy entertaining
four - a whimsical printed pocket square and a coordinating blazer will satisfy all silk fashions
five - create an outdoor area for your guy with a fire pit for cozy nights together

one - stylish stationary is the obvious choice but a set of beautifully covered classics will last a lifetime
two - a cotton dress doesn't have to be boring, especially one in a ladylike silhouette and classic color
three - leather may be the easiest year for men, you can't go wrong with a clutch & coordinating wallet
four - a timeless silk scarf from the french designer hermes, need I say more?
five - a great piece of furniture that she has had her eye on will do the trick for wood, this vintage louis vuitton trunk would surely make any gal weak in the knees
