for the love of the weekend getaway - newport, ri edition

When John & I decided to get hitched in Newport last year we knew we picked a special part of New England that we would always adore. The seaside town of Newport, RI is so charming and filled with things to do from helicopter rides, mansion tours, exquisite dining, shopping and so much more. Since our wedding website {with printable pdfs for your travel plans} content was chock full of details on where to eat & what to do I will spare the full fledged tourist guide to this enchanting town and stick to our past weekend which was the most glorious 48 hours off of work that we have both had in a long time!

We stayed.

Gift Giving

So everyone knows the one year anniversary theme is "paper". This left me a bit stumped on great gift ideas for the man who loathes paper. I mean if you know John he lives on his IPad and doesn't have a piece of paper in his office. All I knew is that I wanted to get creative and wanted it to be fun packaging all related to things he loves. I decided a paper pinata would be his packaging and I had it made from Pinata Mama to resemble the hubs IPhone with all his favorite apps. I then stuffed the paper phone with his favorite candy, gift cards to Johns favorite stores & envelopes with notes that had more fragile gift items set aside. Since my husband whole career is revolved around the love of all wireless communication and radio I went with a 1908 Scientific American with an article featuring the first wireless signals detected by the inventor of the radio. I also had some vintage Yugoslavian money with the other inventor of wireless communication face displayed on it.  Finally a limited edition Veuve Clicquot paper champagne bucket with the Veuve in tow.

Our second night we dined at the the fabulous Forty One Degrees North where we hosted our rehearsal dinner. I did the honor of not taking photos of our second meal to spare my husband the constant social media involvement. It was just about us that dinner & it was fabulous.
