Happy Friday friends! I am so excited to be hosting family in town this weekend. We have been lucky to have had a bit more space during our stay in NYC allowing me to exercise my hosting skills. My real challenge in Manhattan has been dressing comfortably and yet maintaining style. You know wearing heels everyday isn't realistic in a city where you walk everywhere. I have been living in a very warm coat, stretchy skinny jeans, silk blouses and my favorite booties. Baby it's cold outside! Since we relocated to NYC there has been some serious arctic temperatures which has had me on the hunt for some warm outwear. With the help of my girlfriends {and a 30% off sale} getting about a zillion picture messages for their opinions I finally settled on that J.Crew little number below. However, as much as I love a sale I do believe a splurging on outwear is not necessarily a bad idea...come winter in the northeast you will be wearing these coats so much why not sport something you truly love. Morning friends! I don't know about you but come the cooler weather, I look forward to lazy weekends in where you stay in pajamas all day, order in food and watch movies...ahhh, bliss. Life is so busy these days that it's nice to make plans to do absolutely nothing and what is better then doing nada in a brand new pair of pajamas. I have to say my tendency to overpack really came in handy with our little last minute overnight stay in Connecticut. After we celebrate my friends amazing wedding this weekend we are off to Nantucket for a few weeks. I absolutely cannot wait to be out of the city and living a bit of an island life with my main squeeze. Packing always feels like a daunting task as I wish I could just bring my entire closet instead of planning outfits for the trip. But when it comes to summer getaways I find it easier to just pick a color palette like navy & white and go from there. Since Nantucket is the land of the preppy, I will be pretty much living in my favorite casual basics. While away I am not sure how the internet service will be at our little bungalow rental so my posts may not be everyday but I will be sharing some island enchantments on instagram so come say hi!

I don't know about you but pretty much everything Olivia Palermo wears is perfection. I constantly find myself grasping inspiration from her fashionable looks past and present. One that stands out is a snap from a few years ago where she was wearing an amazing Striped Tibi jacket and some very cute Mulberry bow pumps. The rest of the outfit was just a simple silk blouse, tote and dark denim - all wardrobe essentials we likely have in our closets. Thanks to Santa, as a kid my Christmas morning stocking had a ton of subscriptions to fashion magazines. Till this day I love nothing more then lounging around with a good glossy to relax. I know forget which magazine did it but one of my favorite features was always the splurge versus steal on stylish looks for less money, because the more money I saved, the more clothes I was able to buy! I truly enjoy the challenge of creating my version of this series "cash or credit" as it really makes me hunt for the perfect item for less without sacrificing quality, brands or style. So while in my opinion some items that get a ton of use are totally worth splurging on {handbags & outwear}. Today I thought I would share a few favorite wardrobe essentials that are on heavy rotation in my closet like the classic trench, my favorite arrow necklace {seen here & here} and of course great denim and comfy flats for walking around town!

I think it's pretty safe to say that everyone is over snow storms and the bitter cold. I know I am! While I usually loathe shopping for bathing suits, I am thrilled to report that I have finally found a bathing suit that I feel good in. The cinching hugs your curves and for those women with a chest like moi, it comes in a D cup that actually provides support! I love nothing more then sitting poolside with a good book and letting the sun kiss my skin. Summer hurry up - will ya!
Like plaid, fair isle prints seem to be strictly designated as winter patterns. This knitted technique used always remind me of sweaters that my nannie used to make for us as kids, usually with leaping reindeers and snowflakes. However these days the colorful print has gotten a much more chic makeover. J.Crew offered a serious amount of fair isle sweaters this holiday season making me crave a little throwback style to be added to my closet for the long winter ahead. I am personally coveting this particular scarf with a little added sparkle & fur and this cardigan for cozy nights in with my love. Just in case santa is reading and needs some gift ideas :)
I have a bit of delay on today's sip & snack as I was out last night celebrating some of my husbands recent accomplishments. While I will post that tasty recipe a bit later, I wanted to discuss one of my favorite topics...shoes. I have to admit I almost always prefer heels. I always feel more feminine and better about my overall look when I add a little height to my legs. However, I live in the city, a very old part of Boston filled with lots of brick sidewalks that are cracked and broken which means they are far from high heel friendly and let's face it, nothing looks worse then a woman that can't walk in her own shoes properly. So while they aren't my first choice, a chic flat is a must in my day to day lifestyle. One trend I am totally loving is the look of the classic smoking loafer that has been updated with some modern prints and embellishments. It keeps what I always considered a preppy style a lot less stuffy and a bit more interesting and fresh. So I have to ask ...will you be swapping out your ballet flats for this new look?
Every time I go shopping I gravitate to the cheery coral color. I dont know if it's my favorite because it works with my fair skin tone or just that it pairs so wonderfully with white but this color has been majorly on my radar. One piece specifically is the gauzy J.Crew blouse below. It looks fabulous with white shorts, or denim. I love accessorizing the bright hue with golds and tans which lead me to the beautiful sidekicks below. What color are you obsessing over this season???
