Currently Coveting - Basic Instincts

I sort of hate myself for thinking of fall fashion when the summer season is still so fun and full of life. I honestly haven't picked up a single thing for the autumn but that doesn't mean my wish list isn't growing by the day. When it comes to dressing for the cooler weather I alway like to build my wardrobe on quality basics. Things that work well with one another, share a common color palette and that will stand the test of trends. A few of my favorites finds for the fall are below. What are you wishing for your closet come October?

A great blazer will get some serious wear before the cold weather really hits. It's a clean cut and so perfectly preppy with it's popped collar and rich navy coloring {several other colors available}.

When it comes to shoes, I tend to splurge a bit. I love a quality flat as they get worn the most with city living. I absolutely love a stylish flat in a sassy leopard print for adding a little pattern to a basic outfit. A great looking black bootie is also a must have for me, I adore the pointy toe on this pair. Finally the scalloped edges on this pump have me weak in the knees. I just love the sweet simplicity style of these suede babies. They look great with dresses, skirts, denim and so much more.

It goes without saying how important a great pair of denim is. While I do like a distressed look, I don't want holes all over the place, especially when it's cool out. This pair is a steal for under $50 but I also really love this pair & this pair too. Want some great fall colored denim, check out this pair.

Accessories are my favorite things to shop for. Whether it be a great hand bag {my absolute favorite thing to buy} or some pretty jewelry, I always like to keep it rather simple. A gold hoop is my go to most days and when I want something more I'll add in a statement earring. A great watch is a must and a clutch in a fun pattern or print is a great way to elevate an otherwise simple outfit. Finally a stylish scarf to wear around your neck or tied to your bag and definitely don't forget to add some classic aviators for those sunny yet cool days.

Is there a better fall jacket then a trench? I absolutely love this one which looks exactly like the much higher priced tagged version. A great poncho over a stylish sweater is another fall favorite. I lived in this one {can purchase here} all winter, it's like wearing a hug.

Last but not least, my favorite wardrobe essentials are a great little black dress {seen in floral here} something striped like this cute sleeveless top {also love this always stylish tee} and a solid colored silk blouse. I love the lace up details on this one, the double pockets on this one as well as all the colors it comes in & the tunic style of this one.

Currently Coveting - Gray & White

Maybe it's all the gray weather and the snow covered city or perhaps my addiction to everything neutral but gray and white is having a major moment in my clothing right now. I absolutely love the two together for a crisp clean look that help me brighten up a dull winter wardrobe. A few of my favorites are below.

What's On The Outside

One of the best parts of this time of year is the ability to walk out the door with a great piece of outerwear on. While I am certainly not into the thought of puffers and full on snow gear, I am all about the lighter outwear like ponchos, jackets & wool coats. I compiled a few of my favorites below & added some more in the shop the post feed. The poncho/cape is definitely my go to right now. I love clothing that feels like a warm blanket wrapped around me on a cool day. As I search for a proper coat come cooler weather, I'd love to hear what's your favorite outwear?

Currently Coveting

With a rainy weekend ahead here in Boston, I have a feeling my husband and I will be having a very low key weekend...I absolutely loathe going out in the rain and instead I plan on spending all day Saturday watching movies in our pajamas and perhaps even indulge in a little online shopping. I have had my eye on a few items and while I won't be getting all of them I do believe one of those beauties below will have to become mine. I am loving that flare jeans are back along with some other 70's styles like fringe. I totally welcome the bohemian and hippie chic look with open arms. Oh and that little white dress might just be the most perfect feminine frock for this summer's  parties...now if only I could learn to not spill whenever I wear white. The Classic Black Bag

When it comes to saving and splurging, I tend to spend more on bags and shoes versus everyday clothing. I have always felt an item that will get a good cost per wear could be justified versus an item that may be only worn for one season. So when I was recently asked some advice on purchasing a classic black bag, I was excited to put together a little round up at tiered price points. Not only does a great black back stand the test of time with it's simple style, it works for all the seasons and wears so well with age. My only criteria given for the search was that the purse be scaled to this persons proportions {think petite}, not too trendy and something that would work well with city living and travel. My round up includes everything from the top handle to the timeless tote, most even have a great strap for converting to the always convenient cross body.

Baby it's cold outside! Since we relocated to NYC there has been some serious arctic temperatures which has had me on the hunt for some warm outwear. With the help of my girlfriends {and a 30% off sale} getting about a zillion picture messages for their opinions I finally settled on that J.Crew little number below. However, as much as I love a sale I do believe a splurging on outwear is not necessarily a bad idea...come winter in the northeast you will be wearing these coats so much why not sport something you truly love. Color Crush Grey & Sales Galore!

Grey has long been a favorite of mine. It's a great neutral that pairs perfectly with every single color in the spectrum. I personally have been living in this sweater since the temps dropped here in Boston, it feels like a cozy blanket wrapped around you. Grey also looks incredible head to toe in different shades of grey or a completely monotone look. It's practically impossible to mess up pairing this hue. Happy Friday friends, I don't know about you but I am ready for the weekend! Tonight we have a fun double date planned with one of my favorite couples at a new Boston restaurant that I have been excited to try. Work travel has had us on the road quite a bit lately so being home for a few nights is a real treat. Saturday we plan on strolling the city and come fall the first item I am to break out of my closet is my be loved poncho. I just love when the weather allows you to be in cozy clothes that feel like a warm blanket wrapped around you. While I am welcoming the cooler temps, I am not quite ready for the hellish wintry mix New England gets all too often.  I just love being able to walk out the door in a sweater and some jeans for a comfortable day time look.

Work Wear Essentials

In my mind buying clothes for the office can be looked at two ways, option one - I spend most of my time there, I might as well look my best while I am earning that pay check or option two - work clothes are a snooze and I refuse to put effort into how I look 9-5. If you know me at all from this blog or personally you can pretty much figure out I was an option numero uno kinda gal during my corporate office days. I am always a big believer in being dressed to impress in work and socially, so with a dear friends recent job change I thought I would put together a little round up on a few fashionable workwear essentials to help build a killer business wardrobe. The best part is with a few classic pieces you can create several looks without wearing the same five outfits every week.

I like adding color through handbags while keeping the jewlery simple. I also adore a kitten heel to give a bit of height without losing comfort for long work days. I personally opt for one solid in a nude or a black and one pattern for amping up your outfits stylish factor. Comfy leopard flats are also a fun way to mix prints without being to loud in a conservatively dressed office.

dresses
A conservative sheath dress is always appropriate for important meetings and pairs great with  day to night looks. In the winter add the blazer and tights to keep warm. A shirt or a wrap dress is another great office essential. You can add a more interesting belt to help make the look a bit more sophisticated.

A pencil skirt in a dark hue is flattering and super versatile. The navy one I chose goes with every single top in the roundup while the pleated midi skirt is a bit more fun for the warmer months.

A few great shirts can be easily worn several ways. A classic white button down and striped top is a necessity in any wardrobe and looks great on the weekends with jeans and those fab leopard flats. A black cardigan with a little embellishment make the look a bit more interesting while keeping you cozy in frigid offices.

pants
Everyone needs a great pair of black pants, I always opted for an ankle length straight leg to show the shoes, but a great long legged trouser is super slimming and dressy. I also love the idea of a printed pair of pants to help keep the workwear fun and youthful.

A great trench coat is quite possible the best coat you can invest in. While a tweed blazer is a styish addition to a slew of the outfits below creating a pieced suit without looking boring.
