Warm Weather Dreaming

After the holidays are over, I am pretty much ready to break up with winter. The cold air and a snowy scenes lose their appeal with this gal pretty quickly. Come mid January, all I can think about is a warm weather getaway to help break up the way too long winter season. This winter we have a few destinations on our agenda to help us fast forward into Spring and I am already planning my packing lists to get myself out of the bulky layers and my toes into the sand. A little round up of my beach essentials for a warm weather getaway are below.

A Boot Tale

The other day on the news I saw a disturbing segment where women were getting their calves surgically reduced to fit into certain style knee boots. I couldn't believe that women would go to such extremes for fashion. It reminded me of a time when I was working in NYC and I justified the hefty price tag of a certain pair boots because I swore that they went with everything I owned and were the only boot I would wear all winter long. So let's paint a picture of how it all hillariously went down... I am 22, living part time in my parents apartment in NYC {because I couldn't afford my own}, I decide to go into a high end department store {one that I definitely shouldn't even be looking at considering my entry level salary} I head directly to the shoe department, I spot a pair of delicious cognac colored boots with a modest heel height that I think is the prettiest damn thing I have ever laid eyes on. I tell myself even after looking at the ridiculous price tag that if I can get them on, they are coming home with me. So there I am amongst the beautiful people of NYC breaking into a full on panic sweat {ya know those times when you get nervous you will get the item on but not be able to get it off} pulling with all my might to get these painfully gorgeous boots on over my bulky cuffed jeans {skinny jeans weren't a thing yet}. I am pretty sure the salesperson watched on in horror as I wrestled with the luxurious leather all the while reminding himself to zip his lip because he wanted the commission. Then after one final labor-like pull, the boots were on and while they were certainly snug, I was in love. I walked around the carpeted sales floor in a victory lap, so proud of my accomplishment to get these reluctant things on. I stupidly charged the boots so I was to not clear out my bank account on a single purchase and happily skipped out of the store with my retail glow. Fast forward to a ridiculous night out with two of my friends where I had a few too many drinks and my nightmare came true....the boots were stuck...like really stuck. I literally was lying on the couch while my friend Craig and Enzo pulled and pulled trying to get the SOB's off of me. Ya know, one pulling while the other simultaneously trying to unzip the jammed zipper.  In my liquored state and the claustrophobic feeling of being in these boots forever started to roll in, I just said, "cut the damn things off of me...I need to be free" and so they did. The following morning I looked down to the floor at my sad soles and was full of regret. Not only was the bill still being paid off, I had taken the murdered boots to a bunch of cobblers for repair of which no fix was available. SO what is the moral of this ridiculously long and embarassing story?!  One - charging items we can't afford is a BAD idea, that credit card bill will haunt you the following month and two - don't buy shit that doesn't fit...style shouldn't ever be a struggle. There is always a way to have things fit properly without sacrificing how fashionable it is. Just take a look below at my favorite boots of the season available in a slew of styles for every woman of every size!

The Gray T-Shirt

Everyone has a favorite t-shirt in their wardrobe. Whether it be something you sleep in, only wear around the house or that tee that you splurged on because you knew it would be on heavy rotation with everything you own.  Personally my favorite tee is a very old gray slub top from the gap, it's been worn so often it has a few wholes in it but I absolutely love wearing it every chance I get. The versatility of this simple cotton top has endless styling options. Check out how a few of my favorite fashion bloggers have worn theres below.

Lady In Red

Growing up I pretty much wore a red dress to every special occasion I had. My sweet sixteen, numerous proms and pretty much anytime I had to wear a dress, I gravitated to the bold hue. I must have overdosed on the color during my younger years because after high school I never ever chose the crimson color in any part of my wardrobe. Well that is all changing this weekend when I celebrate one of my favorite peoples special days. After feeling like a whale in the dress I originally planned on wearing, I quickly ordered a back up dress online and decided to wear a red gown to the black tie affair. The ruby colored dress felt formal and elegant, just what I wanted.

Working It Out - Part Two

Last summer I did a little post on workout wear and some music to listen to while getting your sweat on. Since I have been continuing my regimen for getting in shape I thought I would revisit the two and combine into a single post. After all don't we all need a little motivation to get to the gym??? My gyms version of Zumba by far has to be my favorite workout, but over the weekend while my sister was visiting, we tried the new Chestnut Hill Soul Cycle and I loved every painful second. I could easily see myself getting addicted to the class as the quick 45 min sweat session combined with the inspiration from the instructor definitely pushed me to really work hard during the class. So since warmer weather is hopefully around the corner, I am feeling more motivated then ever to keep up the weekly workouts and put together a little round up of stylish gear as well as some new favorite tunes to get your booty moving!

Weekend Wear - Jumpsuits

The other day when I picked up this peplum jacket at Free People I thought I would try on a jumpsuit that I saw on the mannequin in the window, oh lordy did that bring on some laughs. Let me tell you, jumpsuits were not made for this girls figure! I never looked more ridiculous in my life then I did that afternoon in the dressing room. I'm pretty sure I actually laughed out loud as I stared at my most unattractive self. So while this style may not work for me, I can't help but love them on other people who have the figures that embrace a one piece outfit like the beauty below.

Weekend Wear - Vacation

I am still on my tan & white kick for the warm weather travel. I always find it easier to pack when you have one color palette you want to wear over and over again. In the winter, its all black for me, all the time. In the summer, it's tan, white and navy. While the dress below didn't arrive in time of our departure I can't wait to try it on when I return & store away for some warmer temps!

Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Friday friends! Hope you all had a great week and have some fun plans for the long weekend. John & I are heading back to Shelter Island with the family. It is going to be a total zoo as we are puppy watching this cutie pie and these two adorable trouble makers will also be visiting and then last but certainly not least the queen bee will be on her couch thrown lounging per usual. So that makes 10 people and 4 puppies under one roof - let the chaos begin!

When it comes to packing for a weekend home I always bring way to much and then wind up living in my beach cover up and bathing suit. I however know one outfit I will be bringing for brunch at our favorite island restaurant. The below look is easy breezy and perfect for rain or shine {just add a classic trench for wet weather}. Our weekend usually consists of a little lounging by the pool, scootering with my husband and then attending the small island parade {so small it goes around "town" twice} on Monday where we pay tribute to the people who this day is really for.

What are y'all up too for the holiday weekend???

p.s. there will not be a weekend wear post tomorrow but check back on Monday for regular programming - have a great weekend everyone!
