Thanksgiving Wear

This year we are hosting our family for Thanksgiving in Boston. Since we are dining out I am torn about what to wear this year. Considering the holiday is one that is based around indulgence in delicious stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie. I would say it's safe to say key is comfort. While most of us would be thrilled to be in our loosest of clothing I put together three looks that will help hide your Thanksgiving food baby wether it be under a loose blouse, a comfortable sweater or a ruffled dress  :).

Fall Florals

I used to only associate floral prints and patterns with Spring fashion. It honestly never occurred to me that with a swift change of a color palette that floral designs would work so well come the autumnal season. I adore the more moody tones of a floral print on an ivory or black backdrop and the rich berry tones that I have been seeing out in the shops. I rounded up a few of my favorite fall florals that will easily take your wardrobe into the season. I am personally loving them in accessories like these gorgeous Coach bags & those cute embroidered pumps with the block heel. I don't know about you but I cannot wait for a less busy schedule, cozy nights in, making comfort foods and getting snuggled up in blankets again. However I know come January I will be singing a different tune...per usual.

Pretty Patterns

I don't wear a lot of patterns but when I do I always gravitate towards florals and stripes. I especially love them together for a good mix of prints. So while nothing is in bloom yet here in Boston, mother nature has finally graced up with some warmer weather and I am all about adding some Spring fashions into my closet. Striped

When I think of striped items I generally gravitate towards navy and white. It's classic, nautical and preppy, three things I love in home style and fashion. However I got inspired by yesterday's post where Sienna Miller wore a stripe on stripe look that was all black and white.  While that particular look was a bit too bold for my personal taste it did get me thinking about black and white stripes and how they translate so well from treats for your home to items for your closet. In the past I would shy away from this combo due to fears of looking like Beetlejuice or even worse The Hamburglar but after some research I noticed there are some seriously chic black and white striped combo's out there. Black & White

Whenever I need outfit inspiration I always like to go to my black & white board on inspiration. Something about this classic combo always feels fresh and modern no matter what season it is. With a lot of upcoming travel I also like choosing this color palette for efficient packing. It's great for pairing with every other color out there and when these two colors are combined into prints, I am not running away scared. Cash Or Credit - The Essentials

In my opinion there are a few staple items that every woman should have in her closet to build a great wardrobe. The usual subjects like a fabulous little black dress, crisp white button down, fabulous fitting denim and ALWAYS something leopard are just a few that come to mind. While I have touched on this subject before, I thought I would revisit the subject in the cash or credit series. I personally think things that will get a lot of wear are worth the splurge and more trendier items are where you want to spend less. However on the other hand but you don't always want to spend a ton on basics that will get a lot of wear and will likely need replacing sooner then later because of it. So with that in mind I put together a few of my favorite wardrobe essentials and found a more affordable counterpart that doesn't sacrifice style or cash in your wallet!

Weekend Wear - Mixing Prints & Textures

Earlier this week I purchased the tweed blazer below at my local J.Crew fall fashion event. I have been dreaming of wearing just as it is laid out below and hope that this weekend brings some cooler weather so I can enjoy being cozy and comfortable strolling around town with my main squeeze.

Weekend Wear - Mixed Prints

When it comes to mixing prints I must admit that the combination of stripes with leopard has to be my most favorite. Ever since I purchased my favorite striped tee, that little leopard clutch below has been haunting me on a daily basis. It's the perfect pattern for mixing with other prints without being over the top. So naturally my obsession with this animal printed accessory has lead me to creating a look with it as my starting point. I personally adore the lovely ensemble below since it can easily be translated into cooler weather by adding some tights and a great coat. The classic pointy toe flats also keep the mini length classic while being comfortable day to night.

Tunic Time

Tunics are one of those wardrobe staples that I always turn too for an effortlessly chic look. While in Nantucket, I lived in this sparkly Lilly Pulitzer number and most recently I gifted this lovely tunic in navy for my fabulous sisters birthday {the higher sides of this shirt keep it from looking like maternity wear}.  This loose fitting styled blouse pairs well with skinny jeans for a dressier look as well as shorts for a day time outing or can stand alone as a coverup for a summer day on the beach. I personally love the style every time of year wearing over leather pants {also seen here} and or with destroyed skinny denim with killer heels. It might be that I am disguising my german hips but I also feel comfortable and stylish whenever I wear them, which has me curious...what do you think of this style?

Thirsty Thursday - Coke Slurpee

When I was a kid one of my favorite summer time treats was a coke slurpee. I remember riding my bike to the local seven eleven with my friends to get one and thoroughly enjoying each and every sip. As we got older I remember spiking the frosty treat with a little vodka to bring to the beach and not being detected by the fun police who were always patrolling us sunbathers for drinking in public. What I didn't realize back then was the amount of calories I was consuming in each little delicious sip. That however doesn't stop me from enjoying it from time to time. Since seven elevens aren't all too common where we live I thought I would whip up a version for my husband and myself. I followed this recipe and was pleasantly surprised how it instantly brought me back all those wonderfully nostalgic memories of being a kid in the summer on Long Island and how fitting it seemed for today's cocktail, because honestly is there anything more americana then coca-cola???

Comfy Cozy

A fashion trend that is on permanent repeat every fall/winter is the sweater dress. I cannot get enough of them. Each year the look gets a more amped up version that is spot on for today's looks. It all comes down to the details like a leather sleeve, a pleated skirt, the infamous nautical stripe or a belted skater skirt, I love it all! I adore the look with an exposed leg in before the weather becomes frigid and then pairing these lovelies with tights and pumps for a night on the town or riding boots for a chic day look. Which is your favorite???

trend spotting - leather

I remember when I got my first leather skirt and how I instantly fell in love. Tina Turner was first in my memory to have rocked this look and I can honestly recall that I wanted her legs even at the age of 12.  I may have been a wee too young to wear such a nice article of clothing but it was a gift and if I didn't wear then I would have just been plain old rude right? Yes, let's stick with that. The skirt was gifted to me from one of my favorite neighbors growing up. She had all boys so I usually got spoiled with something elaborate as I imagine she was getting the shopping for a girl out of her system. It really worked out well for me. I revisited leather again in college when J.Crew came out with a few pencil skirts made of leather and I purchased a tan knee length skirt that soon became a staple in my wardrobe for every special event {which reminds me that I need to find that skirt again)}. So any-who, moving along from memory lane, leather dresses are hot hot hot right now and I am totally loving the look. Softer lines and lady like styles make this look a little more chic then rock and roll but still gives a bit of an edgy look without having to go full out goth. I picked out a few of my favorite looks in leather dresses and was pleasantly surprised to see all the options out there, color block, colored leather, long sleeve styles, combination of leather and fabric and even longer hemlines for those of us who never achieved those Tina Turner gams - enjoy!

Bauble Crush - Margaret Elizabeth

When I first saw Margaret Elizabeth's jewelry I knew I needed to bookmark her site to blog about one day. Her designs are just too good to not share with all you. I was seriously weak in the knees over her statement necklaces and immediately started putting together my Christmas list in June (sorry honey). The styles are classic yet modern, a statement yet subtle and they would brighten a bland outfit in a hot second. pretty peplums

The peplum trend looks to be sticking around for another season and I couldn't be any happier. I mean who doesn't love a top that cinches at your waist and flows softly down your sides. It's quite flattering on almost all body types and exudes a lady like style that is often forgotten in today's fashions. I picked a few of my favorite peplum styles to share with you all and some tips on how to wear it.  I love pairing these tops with a cropped or "ring master"  style blazer like this one.  Having the hem of your peplum top hang out the bottom of a blazer over skinny jeans in my opinion is tres chic. I also love pairing these types of tops with pencil skirts to recreate a retro yet glamorous look. Accessorize the crew neckline tops with a statement necklace and voila you have a chic polished outfit.
