Wrap It Up

I saw the saying above on one of my favorite bloggers instagram and thought it was so honest & hilarious. I am definitely guilty of wearing the same outfit a few times especially those that I feel good in. I am so incredibly picky when it comes to my clothing that when I find something I love, I usually buy it in two colors. This was definitely the case with this wrap top I have been living in all winter long. I loved it so much I also gifted it to my sister at Christmas. I have always been drawn to wrap tops, I find them flattering around the torso and just a bit more interesting then a basic silk blouse. I also keep seeing that the "new" styling trick on how to wear a basic button down blouse as a faux wrap by crossing over the sides and buttoning them at the cleavage & tucking them in to hold in place like Sienna Miller did below.

Black & White

Whenever I need outfit inspiration I always like to go to my black & white board on inspiration. Something about this classic combo always feels fresh and modern no matter what season it is. With a lot of upcoming travel I also like choosing this color palette for efficient packing. It's great for pairing with every other color out there and when these two colors are combined into prints, I am not running away scared. A little round up of some black and white favorites are below, happy shopping!

now & later

I recently read an article {I forget where} that said when making a purchase you should try to think of at least five things to wear it with. If you can't do that, then the purchase isn't versatile enough to be an investment in your closet. Since I have been picking up a few things for fall I have been exercising this suggestion hoping to build a better wardrobe of items that I will love longer then a single season. Two items that I felt fit this assignment was my new favorite Madewell dress and a new leather jacket that I know will be on heavy rotation due to their simple silhouettes and style. I will be wearing the dress now with strappy sandals and a statement necklace then next month when it's cooler I will be swapping out my sandals for booties and tights along with a fitted leather jacket to keep warm.

Seeing Double

I have noticed a bit of a trend this fall in my shopping habits that is a tad new to me. Everything that I have purchased and loved I have purchased again in another color. While some may think this is a pretty stale way to build a wardrobe, I think of it as I buy what I like and if the style works why not indulge in more then one color if it. The only issue I have since noticed is that my entire wardrobe is black white & grey. A few of my favorite purchases this season are below and I am curious to ask, am I the only person who buys two of their favorite items or would you rather have more of varying styles in your fashion repertoire?

Helmut Lang is the the founding father of the asymmetrical hem. I bought this dressed up sweatshirt jacket in gray and black and they have been on heavy rotation ever since.

I love a wrap top, I find them flattering on my large bust and this neckline was low enough to show a little bit of skin but not low enough to make me self conscious. I clearly needed in every color available. Black & white available here & blush available here.

My friend Amelia showed me this scarf and I quickly loved it in every color and the favorable price point. The navy {sold out online} & the gold were my favorites.

J.Crew's Valentina pump has been a long time favorite style of mine. I first purchased in the patent leather leopard and this season I couldn't resist the oxblood and calf hair leopard for the perfect combination of comfort and style. I literally can walk in these all over the city with zero pain.

A classic striped t-shirt is an essential in every wardrobe. I loved this soft jersey tee so much that the navy & the grey both were an easy purchase. I could live in this item.

Stella & Dot Renegade Bracelet is stretchy edgy fun bracelet that I love in both silver & gold.

I love a tie neck top paired with denim and great pumps. I purchased this blouse in black & white but loved this more affordable option available at H&M.

weekend wear - lazy sunday

Everyone & their mother knows that emerald is the color of the year for 2013. However it's hard to wear green head to toe without looking like a leprechaun. I always love using color in my accessories selections and keep my ensemble pieces int he basic hues of black, navy, tan & white. It allows everything to be recreated into numerous looks with ease. I might be weird but even when I am laying around the house, I always like to be dressed in something other then pajamas. On the weekends when I don't dare to head out in the freezing Boston temperatures I practically live in ponchos and jeans. It's like a blanket wrapped around you yet I don't feel sloppy. So without further adieu I combined my love of emerald and being comfy chic to  create the look below for lounging around on a lazy Sunday. Hope your all having a great weekend!

Party to Outfit

Just because the holidays are over doesn't mean that their isn't a reason to host a fabulous dinner party with the people whose company you enjoy the most. I love love love to entertain but don't always have the chance to host more then four people at a time in our home. I imagine when we have a bigger house with a dining area I will be calling on my friends for lots of stay in dinners filled with pretty details like this one featured on the wedding chicks. While I generally gravitate to anything gold, black and a pop of pink , I knew that as soon as I saw the image below I would use for a party to outfit feature! That adorable zebra paper popped up everywhere this holiday season and I love the idea of using decorative wrapping paper as decor on a table setting - genius!

Party to Outfit

One of my favorite bits to write on the blog is the party to outfit posts which you can see here, here and even a guest post here. Celebrations and soirees are a constant inspiration for me not only for my own entertaining purposes but also for creating stylish ensembles. After-all a successful soiree starts off with a great color palette and is chock full of stylish details.  When I saw this fabulous fete for a 40th birthday party I knew I could use it for a sassy holiday outfit. I was totally smitten with the festive yet feminine color combinations the organizers chose and all those delicious details were executed perfectly! I used this image to create a not so typical holiday outfit that is girly but not over the top as the leather elements help keep the frilly in check. I also included some style steals for each item to help save some cash - fist pump for the bank account!

Leather Details

There is no news flash that leather is huge this Fall. Whether you're rocking the real deal or faux. This look is hitting every item in the wardrobe.  I adore the material as it's super versatile ability to work with so many other fabrics like denim, chiffons, silks etc. Especially loving it layered with fur! While I already shared my admiration for the leather dress, I also wanted to show some other items that give just a hint of leather in the details. The leather sleeve seems to be the most popular as it's available in everything from tops to outwear. However other more discreet details exhibiting leather like a panel on the shoulder or a deep v neck are great ways to take baby steps into the trend. Some of my favorites are below - what are yours???

if all bad outfits could be forgot...part 3

Sparkle and shine this new years in the beauty below. I seriously love anything sparkly all year long but the dress below really is beyond gorgeous. I would wear it with a fab faux fur jacket, suede pumps, and simple crystal jewels. A smokey eye and nude lip for make up will be sexy and perfect for that midnight kiss!
