Fancy Feet

Summer may be coming to an end but that doesn't mean we have to transport our little tootsies right from sandals to boots! I personally love transitioning back into flats come fall, especially when flats are getting some serious style like the little lovelies below. Living in a city means a lot of walking and it's very important to me to not sacrifice style for comfort. While I do dread the initial breaking in of the shoes, I have learned a few tricks to avoid the oh so painful back of the heel blister. One - break in the shoes with some socks around the house, the thicker the sock the better. Yes you may look like a crazy person but it stretches them out just enough to be comfy when you hit the streets. Two - Wear advanced healing band aids before the blister, protecting the back of your foot with these cushy band aids will help soften the rubbing on the back of the heal. Three - Add a sticky gel cushion to the back of your shoe so the soft material touches your foot instead of the stiff leather.  Four - Some department stores offer complimentary stretching of the shoe with purchase. Neiman Marcus has done for me in the past & it was awesome & if not a local cobbler can likely do for you too. Finally, Five - Apply subtle heat with a blowdryer to the part of the shoe that is tight and when warm flex the fabric around by hand to loosen the trouble spots, be careful on synthetic materials. Enjoy your happy and fancy feet!

Just Beachy

I don't know about you all but I am looking forward to spending as much time at the beach as possible this Summer. Growing up on Long Island near some of New York's best beaches meant we visited the ocean year round. However it's pretty safe to say when the temps rise and the sun is out, there is no better time to visit the beach then in the summer. While I don't get to visit our childhood destination of Fire Island anymore, I am happy as a clam wherever there is sand, water & my beach essentials like the little round up below. Is there anything better then reading some favorite magazines or a great novel with your toes in the sand? I think not.

Cash or Credit

Studded details are everywhere this season. I am especially loving them on handbags and in my book nothing beats a black and gold combination. I love the combination of the classic black tote combined with the edgier spiked elements. I found four similar styles that all boast this studded look yet they are at dramatically different price points. The top two totes are even from the same designer {different lines}. What items do you like to splurge on and where to save when it comes to shopping?

color crush - navy

This past weekend I ventured away from my routine blah manicure of a pale pink or white and got a bold sapphire navy blue. I never wear dark colors on my nails but I have been on a serious navy kick lately and went for it. While my husband absolutely loathes it, I am glad I gave it a spin and think it's so fun to experiment with color in the form of polish. Since I have been staring at my paws typing all day at work I thought I would put together some of my favorite navy items that I have been coveting because afterall what is there not to love about this classic color. It looks great on everyone and compliments so many other colors brilliantly. The navy J.Crew tank below is the latest edition to my closet, cannot wait to pair it with some dark jeans and my gold metallic pumps on our vacation in Napa next week! Which is your favorite navy item???

Dressed Up Casual

Casual clothes have a whole new life this season with some dressed up elements. Whether is be a touch of sparkle with a glitter accent or a tuxedo stripe to stretchy denim, your go to pieces for laying around have gone full on glam. I particularly love the jeweled embellishments on the sweatshirt, I would pair it with some destroyed denim and flats for a perfectly chic weekend look. Which is your favorite???

Where I'd Rather Be

Captain obvious blogging today on things I would rather be doing then sitting behind a computer and answering emails at work. Just last week I was sitting on the serene shores of Shelter Island drinking a refreshing cocktail and people watching at the trendy Sunset Beach. It was bliss and I wish I could hop in Doc's Delorean to go back in time and be doing it all again today and every day for that matter. Why didn't I become a school teacher again??? Summers off sound positively glorious! Instead the highlight of my Friday is that I can wear denim to work, lucky me! There is really nothing like skinny jeans in 90 degree weather to make you feel that summer is in full swing. OK...OK enough with my whining and let's get down to the good stuff - beach essentials. After seeing what my sister brings to the beach for her family {tents, chairs, umbrellas, toys, snacks, bags, paddle board, snorkles etc.} it had me thinking what are the true essentials we need for a day at the beach so I created a little style board inspired by my beloved Shelter Island Beaches.

color combo crush - navy & white

Are there more two colors that are made for each other then navy and white??? In my opinion these two together in any form is total perfection. As the warmer weather approaches I love converting all my black clothes for navy (so rebellious in my color selection I know). Together this color duo is often seen in stripes, dots, and everything nautical but even in solids I adore it to pieces. From fashion to decor in your home combining the two is always stylish in my book - just look at all the eye candy below. Stay tuned for part two where this combo is featured in some beautiful home settings!

room to outfit

Second installment of room to outfit. I seriously can never get enough of anything that is featured in the fab home mag House Beautiful and when I came across this stunner of a room I knew I wanted to use if for an outfit inspiration. Even though this room was featured in 2008 I think it is still totally relevant to today's style.  I may never be bold enough to have a room like this in my home but I still can appreciate the beautiful colors and rich look of this New Orleans formal living room. The soft pink colored walls with the gold accents on the chairs, chandelier and mirror were all antiques found locally in NOLA.  I also adore the modern Lucite side table that mixes new with the old. Would you ever have a pink room in your home??? I think this fancy room deserves an elegant ensemble to wear within in it...queue the daydreaming of being fabulous drinking champagne and having friends over for dinner in this elegant environment!

This pale pink Zac Posen gown is absolutely insane, I knew the second I laid eyes on it, it would be the focal point of my room to outfit design. I seriously wish I had the funds and a place to wear such a beauty. I paired the exquisite dress with the always stylish Miu Miu shoes that have a Lucite heel which reminded me of the chandelier & the clear side table. The black trim on the nude suede  reminded me of the black dresser, back of the couch and black coffee table top. The aqua drop earrings are formal but organic in their shape while the color matches the couch and the stunning rug perfectly. The gold and diamond trim on the earrings reminded me of the trim on the mirror and chairs. The pillows shape inspired me to find a evening clutch to resemble the petite rectangle size and to use a shade a tad darker then the dress. I kept all the beauty products in the blush colored family as I didn't want anything too overpowering. The delicate bracelet is dainty enough to give your arm a little sparkle but not take away from the statement earnings. So what do you think, would you wear this look below???

in the nude

I am absolutely obsessed with this neutral colored shoe that goes with everything. Last summer I was on a serious hunt for a pair of nude sandals for our honeymoon thinking if I just found one good pair to go with every outfit I would save so much room on packing but of course I had zero luck and therefor packed ten pairs of shoes for the two weeks of heaven. I was so thrilled to see that this season the trend is in back in full swing and the styles are a lot less slutastic (my slutastic definition = shoes that look like you work on a pole) then they were last year. The little lovelies that I discovered below are perfect with jeans, dresses and skirts - which pair is your favorite??? I know which is mine!
