Weekend Wear - Baby It's Cold Outside

As Boston welcomed a significant snow fall and single digit temps this week all I can think about is cozy clothes to stay bundled up and warm in. I am particularly drawing inspiration from our preppy neighborhood where everyone is dressed in classic clothes in traditional colors like navy, red and tan.

I heart it

I don't know about you but I am seeing hearts wherever I go! I first was smitten with this print when I saw this shirt in classic black and white color scheme then again in this adorable dress. I quickly took note to research some other similar styles and I was instantly doused in heart heaven. I originally thought the pattern may be a little too "young" for my personal taste but I was way off. I really loved the scale of the hearts and it's scattered pattern making it less loud. What do you think of this trend???

The Little White Dress

We all have that little black dress in our closet that is our go to for last minutes events or when all other outfits are just a big fail. I dont know about you but I always feel great in a little black dress, black is always flattering, easy to accessorize and in a hot second you can be ready to hit the town in style. However come warmer weather, the LBD takes the back seat to the little white dress. It's clean, crisp and the epitome of summer. It looks great with a heeled sandal or a thong sandal. I personally love pairing it with a great denim jacket for cooler days/nights. So while I am 100% against wearing white to someone else's wedding I do think this dress is perfection for almost any other occasion which leads to a few LWD's that can fit the bill day or night at all different price points.

hey there stud

If you were a child of the 80's like moi you likely remember the bedazzler and wanting to embellish the hell out of everything in your closet. Thankfully my mother never let me get that thing, what a nightmare my zcavarrici's would have been with sparkle pockets! While the rhinestone craze is still evident in some styles, the hot new trend is the stud embellishment. I first loved this look when I saw the studded bottom tote by Alexander Wang. Since then the spikey stud has pretty much adorned everything from accessories to wardrobe to decor for your home. This edgey embellishment has grown up into a much chic-er version and no longer has that punk vibe looming over it's head. Take a look at a few of my favorites below!

Drop Everything

Once again history is repeating itself in the world of fashion. This past summer we saw this displayed on the beaches with swimwear inspired from the fifties. However today's fashion post is a throwback to the likes of the roaring twenties with the drop waist dress. This uber feminine silhouette has been on my radar since I purchased this Loft dress. I would never have thought this look would be for me but I am loving it! The elongated bodice makes you look taller and slimmer {who doesn't want that on their side???} and the shorter frilly skirt at the hem keeps the overall look playful but sophisticated. Moving into the cooler months in New England means I would likely wear these little numbers with some opaque tights and a dressed up ankle bootie topped off with a blazer to have a complete polished look that can get you from day to night no problemo!

pretty peplums - part two

You have seen how to style peplum tops in part one but how about wearing a peplum dress, skirt or a jacket? I have to admit that the jacket may be my favorite use of this trend. A big time lover of all outerwear and blazers this should come as no surprise.I think it's so pretty to have that slight feminine ruffle detail on the outside of your outfit and it's a great way to warm up to the trend too. I have been coveting this striped peplum jacket since the spring and luckily it has sold out everywhere because so I wont able to pull the trigger on spending crazy cash on a jacket that has such a trendy feature regardless of it's total perfection.

collars for humans

I have to admit when the collar trend came out I wasn't jumping up and down with excitement. It sort of reminded me of the turtleneck bibs from the 80's called "dickies" a la Christmas vacation that cousin Eddie so famously wore in forest green. I also felt that there was no need for the uncomfortable sensation of something tight across the neck. Just thinking about clasping a collar on has a enormous feeling of claustrophobia setting in on me. I mean most men I know will take off a tie and unbutton the collar of their shirt they the second they can, so why do we as women want to create yet another fashion that is uncomfortable, why do we consistently make things harder for ourselves??? Thankfully the trend has taken a turn and it's not just about the detachable stiff collar but more about the collar necklace which I believe falls into my beloved statement necklace category. I am adoring the longer looser and crystal varieties. Is this look for you or would you be giving the Heisman to anything with a collar???

room to outfit

I saw the below image on pinterest and thought it was really interesting. There is SO much going on in this living room that I would think I would be overwhelmed and instantly stressed in a space with so many different wall hangings, prints and patterns and oh lordy - all those bright colors! I imagine if I had to ever to describe this room's look to someone they would think ymy taste was hideous! Antlers on the walls in different finishes, black and white damask chair, rugby striped rug layered with a zebra hide rug...it's just all wrong yet so right. Something about this room just screams effortlessly chic to me and I knew I wanted to transform it into an outfit. What do you think???
