Striped

As Spring items are hitting the shelves I am noticing tons of navy and white. Especially when it comes to my favorite pattern, stripes. The classic print mixes brilliantly with so many other patterns like florals and my favorite leopard {as displayed in that fabulous clutch below}. So I did a little round up of some of my favorite items boasting stripes.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Bucket List

I am a pretty handbag obsessed person. While I personally favor totes and cross-body styles, the "bucket" bag is definitely the new trend this season. I personally remember this pouch like purse growing up when my sister had a similar style from Coach.  Doesn't it seem like all trends eventually make a full circle and come back in style, which leads me to having to ask, are you willing to give trends a second chance???

Two's Company

A few snowy weekends ago I popped in one of my favorite local shops, Flat Of The Hill where I spotted the above trinket tray. I instantly fell in love with it. The saying is simple yet boasts some solid advice. When I got home I saw that the makers of the tray Two's Company has a slew of these cheeky porcelain trays with "wise sayings" on them. Quotes from people of the past, sayings of guidance and some that just have a little wit in them. While the tray above is my absolute favorite I just thought these were too good to not share. These will definitely be getting bookmarked for gifts in the future!

Let's Get Local - Floral Design

Morning lovelies....My apologies for the delay in todays post but we returned very late last night from our travels and I wanted to make sure todays  "let's get local" feature was nothing less then fabulous for you all to enjoy! I am beyond thrilled to share some serious pretty today with the talented gal behind the boutique floral design studio - The Little Flower Cottage. I have had the privilege of soaking up  Navya's beautiful works thanks to her stunning instagram and then finally getting to meet her at a Valentines DIY event earlier this month and she was just as wonderful as her work. So get comfy and check out the all the gorgeous details of her amazing floral designs and get to know the pretty lady behind the business just a little bit more!

Tell us a little about Navya, the gal behind the pretty flowers, i.e. where you grew up, what you like to do on your free time, personal style in fashion or home decor, guilty pleasures etc.

I like to think that I’m a former city girl, living in the country! I was born and raised in the tri-state area but moved to Boston about ten years ago. After a fun-filled decade in bean-town, my husband Mike and I moved to the sweet little seaside community of Scituate. A lot of our spare time is spent working on our charming fixer-upper {a nantucket style antique cape} and getting to know the new town we call home! A perfect day usually involves hopping in our old sandy Jeep to head out for an adventure. Sometimes it’s just a long drive with a lovely view and sometimes it’s hitting my favorite local antique shops - which brings us to my guilty pleasure & home décor style! Think Anthropologie eclectic meets coastal charm. On the best of days these early morning excursions are followed up with days on the beach, soaking up the sun & sparkling ocean views. Is it Summer yet?

What made you want to open up your own shop and what are some of the services you provide to your customers?

I have long been obsessed with beautiful flowers but it wasn’t until planning my own wedding over three years ago that I was inspired to actually start my own business. I used to work long hours for a major financial corporation, but thanks largely in part to my sweet Husband’s encouragement, I took a chance and changed paths to pursue this dream. I knew from my personal experiences as a bride that I wanted to provide clients with a truly fun experience; a stress free moment in the journey of wedding planning. I can’t promise my bride’s that it won’t rain on their wedding day but I can promise them the flowers of their wedding dreams. The Little Flower Cottage primarily focuses on floral design for custom events like weddings & parties but, we’ve been branching out with personal orders for Holidays recently, and hope to see that side of our business grow.

Where do you get your inspiration for your incredible arrangements?

I am totally inspired by the beauty of nature. I try to work with as much locally sourced in-season product as possible which often gives my designs very distinct seasonal personality. I strive for each of my creations to feel fun, imaginative and a bit wild, almost as if they arrived straight from the garden!

What accomplishment are you most proud of to date & or what's the best advice you received when starting your own business?

I hate to toot my own horn but, I am so proud of how far my business has come in the last year. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with many other talented creatives and seen my work published in a variety of respected media outlets -which is a dream come true. The advice I rely on most often came from my Father in Law {a successful entrepreneur himself} who told me that if your great at something and commit to it, you will succeed. It’s such a simple equation that I like thinking of during the moments of self doubt that come hand in hand with owning a business!

Living & working near Boston/New England you must have some secret gems in our area. What are some of your favorite spots to dine shop or visit?

This is a toughie, because I adore New England and have so many favorites from The Vineyard to Bar Harbor. I do have to say that our little area on the coastal south shore boasts many beautiful spots and restaurants, so I am going to highlight some newfound gems that would collectively make for a perfect Summer day trip! 1. Duxbury Beach is a beautiful slice of sand (with public parking!) that will make you feel like you’re down the cape with half the traffic. 2. Enjoy drinks and music as you take a sunset sail around Scituate Harbor aboard an old fashioned wooden Schooner, The Lucky Finn. 3. If you love the Island Creek Oyster Bar in Boston, see where it all started and book a tour to visit the Island Creek Farm! 4. Head over to Scituate for a fine dining experience. Restaurant ORO is run by former south end chefs Jill and Robin King, and they’re serving up creative cocktails and locally sourced seafood. 5. Afterwards head to Galley Kitchen & Bar , a new restaurant in town with a vibrant bar scene you will be surprised to find outside of the city! And sometimes, despite all the amazing options, my favorite thing to do is just pack a picnic and head to the beach, simplicity at its best!

Heading Home!

Quick post today as we are leaving sunny Sedona & heading back to chilly Boston! I can't say enough about the beautiful and dramatic landscape out here. It's truly not justified in photos but below are a few snaps of our trip! I feel like the luckiest lady in the world to have been given the gift of celebrating my birthday here with my favorite guy. I'll be back to normal programming tomorrow, have a great day everyone!

The love of my life & the Grand Canyon.

Celebrating my 35th in our casita.

Hiking near ancient ruins.

The most amazing view from our jacuzzi

Renting a buggy & driving crazy fast through the desert.

Came across these double "H" ranch gates that I had to snap.

Enjoying the warm days by the pool.

Indulging in my favorite cocktail (also our wedding cocktail) the prickly pear margarita.

Lighting the fireplace during the cool nights.

Weekend Wear - Vacation

I am still on my tan & white kick for the warm weather travel. I always find it easier to pack when you have one color palette you want to wear over and over again. In the winter, its all black for me, all the time. In the summer, it's tan, white and navy. While the dress below didn't arrive in time of our departure I can't wait to try it on when I return & store away for some warmer temps!

Greetings

Happy Friday Everyone! I am truly enjoying the dramatic landscape here in Sedona. John and I take vacation very seriously and try to do as little as possible no matter where we go. It's not really everyones cup of tea to vacation like that but we think of our time away as a chance to sleep in, order lots of room service, indulge in some services at our resorts spa. On our ambitious day we will venture off to the Grand Canyon! While it may not be the usual hot desert temps, I welcome the sun shining on my skin and do not miss the snowy city in Boston that we left behind! I will be sharing a few snaps of our journey on instagram so come on by & say hello! Have a great weekend!

Birthdays

I turn thirty-five today and I still sorta can't believe it. While benchmark birthdays usually consist of years when big things happen, like when you turn sixteen and you get your license, or when you turn eighteen and you can vote or are off to college to live independently for the first time, then you turn twenty-one and you can retire the fake ID and finally walk into a liquor store without worrying about getting rejected at checkout. When you are younger, getting older is awesome. Each year brings an exciting new element of "growing up". Then you blink and life jumps to your thirtieth birthday. This was an age I had a really hard time with. I always had put so many expectations on turning thirty, I always imagined I would have been married, I would own a home, I would have children, I would have a dog. In my early twenties I thought all of that would have been accomplished because in my mind thirty was old! How flipping crazy is that {can I hop in the DeLorean and give myself a good slap up the side of the head for thinking such things?}! Thirty was an age when I though I should have had my life together and in my mind I didn't.  I messed up big time on my that year with my out of control emotions and not giving myself a break for not having accomplished any of the above. Luckily for me my then boyfriend {now husband} set me straight and made me realize all the amazing things I did have in my life instead of counting what I didn't. Most importantly I had my entire family and I had him. I had a future of all those milestones to still look forward to, I had a decade of my twenties that was crazy fun but was thankfully over and a new decade that would be full of new surprises and adventures.

So fast forward five years and here I am writing about getting older. Except this year I welcome turning thirty-five with open arms! I am more excited then ever for what is in store for me and the years to come. I feel happy, like really happy. I have a lot of love in my life, I have awesome friends and family that are always there for me and I have the best partner in crime by my side to go through life with. For that I am most grateful. So today I am toasting to being another year older and maybe even a little bit wiser because I no longer will allow an age determine how I feel about life or myself!

Here is to this being the best year yet!

Surprise!

When my friend Amelia invited me out for lunch prior to my travels, I didn't think much into it. After-all, having this lovely friend in the neighborhood means I luckily get to have lots of lunch dates with her. Little did I know she was busy planning a luncheon with some other friends and surprised me good! When I walked into Sam's yesterday afternoon and saw some of my favorite faces blowing noise makers and screaming happy birthday, I was literally shocked. I had no idea the pretties around that table had put together such a lovely afternoon that everyone contributed something towards {never-mind that I had just seen them a few days prior at bowling - these girls are good at secret keeping, even after a few bevey's} I was beyond surprised and completely touched. I don't think I have had a birthday party since I was sixteen and let me tell you...they are still super fun even when you are well into your thirties. So a big THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to these amazing ladies {Lauren, Cambria, Krissy, Kate & Amelia} for completely taking me off guard and making this one birthday I will never forget! I look forward to many more celebrations with you all - xoxo

the amazing treats I got to take home, my floral crown was worn literally all day around the city!

my H balloon now lives perfectly over my bar cart

Black Tie

It's pretty rare for my husband and I to have an affair where the attire calls for black tie. Now that I think of it, I have never even seen my husband in a tuxedo! Well that is all about to change early this summer when we help celebrate a dear friends big day. I couldn't be more excited about getting glammed up for a formal evening celebrating a special couples happiest moment. Afraid to get stuck in a pinch last minute, I have been keeping my eye out there for an evening gown to wear and the two below have caught my attention. I adore the navy color on both but the first beaded detail and clover pattern on the back of the gown is so pretty but the second dress has gathering in all the right places which makes me feel like it would be more flattering {and this girl needs all the hip disguising I can get}. I need your help....

Which is your favorite???

Glossaholic

I am a serious glossaholic. It's a problem. I am always on the hunt for the perfect pink lip gloss and my arsenal of unsuccessful colors unfortunately outnumbers the ones that are flattering. So many are too bubble-gummy or barely show up on my fair skin. That was until I came across the "Lip Slip" by Sara Happ. This super moisturizing soft blush color gloss is my new favorite shade. After one application it not only kept it's color for hours but also the silky texture stayed intact making my lips feel super moisturized. I love this new to me brand so much I felt deserved it's own post. I can't wait to try some of her other products like the ones below.
