Mom's 70th Birthday!

This past weekend in Connecticut we celebrated my mom's 70th birthday! While we love to throw a big party, she wanted to keep it a small intimate celebration with just the immediate family. That however didn't mean that we didn't plan a few personal touches to the weekend to help make this special occasion a little extra special.  Since I got to be behind the planning, I worked with an artist to create a autumnal watercolor crest with our mom's initials in it. Since she is more known as Oma {German from Grandma} these days I used that in the birthday message.

When the family checked in I had monogrammed guest bags waiting on the beds filled with some of our mom's favorite snacks as well as some miscellaneous items in case anyone forgot the essentials.

Inspired by my favorite gifting company, I created three of these totes for my family.

The table centerpiece was created by Winston's of Greenwich. It is called the "Summer Berry'.

Gifts were wrapped in equally bright paper in an English rose print from Paper Source

The seating was organized with white agate place card holder with each family members name written in white ink. Perfect for reusing for the holidays or making a coaster set out of.

Finally, we put together a video of for her that included lots of happy memories from the past 70 years with recorded messages from friends and family sending her birthday wishes! Happy Birthday Mom, we love you!

Fab Favors - Hangover Kits

Over the weekend we celebrated my best friends bachelorette up in Portland, ME. It was so fun to have all my college girls together for twenty fours of complete debauchery.  We did a few fun games, painted champagne glasses, then went to dinner in an old church followed by a night out of dancing that has left me severely sore from all my sweet dance moves ; ). When we woke this morning to say we were all hurting would be a severe understatement. Thankfully my hangover kits came in handy for the morning after. All the details to make your own are below.

Fiesta

This past Friday was a fun one as some friends and I got together to celebrate our dear friend Amelia's birthday. It sure was hard keeping a secret for so long from a friend you talk to almost everyday. Luckily the fiesta went as well as we had planned and the birthday girl was totally surprised as she and her husband entered a favorite local Mexican restaurant. I was so happy that her husband allowed me free range on the decorations and favors. It's always fun to plan colorful parties and since I was asked about a few of the places I purchased the evenings treats, I thought I would do a post featuring all the sources so you can use to plan your next fiesta!

Finally our dear friend Krissy of Boston Pollen created the most beautiful arrangement of different dahlias for the tables and a flower crown for the birthday girl.

Let's Party!

Morning friends! I am back in Boston for a few days after an amazing vacation in Nantucket with my love and a week in Connecticut celebrating my nieces birthday and some other special events. Every year I go down to help my sister throw my nieces a birthday party to remember, we always love getting creative and flexing our DIY muscles. The theme this year for Miss Lyla was a casual country fair. There were pony rides, farm animals for petting, concession stands filled with fun snacks, photo booths, games and more. It was such a great time for both the kids and the adults that I thought I would do a little round up of some of my favorite party items to throw your own little celebration!

A Sparkly Soiree

As Christmas quickly approaches there is one more holiday that needs some attention, New Years Eve! While I always felt too many expectations were put on this evening {and were rarely lived up to} I do enjoy a small soiree with friends celebrating the start of a new year. What I love even more is being able to do all the decorating with one stop shopping, luckily Anthropologie has really amped up their party shop on this year and has some amazing decorations to through one hell of a party!

a gold & grey color scheme is the perfect palette for this celebratory evening

adorably chic invitations to send to your guests along with a resolution kit for those pesty promises we try to keep with ourselves but all too often break

a party is never complete without a place to take pretty photos & this backdrop will surely add some pizzaz to your evenings mementos

every photo back drop needs some props & these pinwheels would be a great background for smaller spaces

confetti may be a total PIA to clean up but it sure does look pretty when the clock strikes midnight

decorate your snacks and desserts with these adorable toppers

makes some noise with these petite party horns

mini pinatas are a great treat for your guests to take home stuffed with sweets for the morning after, while an additional banner is great for designating the bar area

this giant balloon is a steal at $50, I would totally use it as an entrance to let guests know where the party is at!

Fabulous Favor

It's no surprise that the idea of having a signature cocktail at any soiree is a must have these days. I have done them at 40th birthdays, farewell parties, and even in our own wedding. I have loved them each and every time and so have the guests.  Creating a catchy name along with a concoction that represents your favorite spirits is a fun way to add a personal touch to your event along with letting your guests know a little something about you and your other half. This had me thinking of other ways to incorporate a "signature cocktail" in your event and what I came up with was a favor everyone would love. The combination of your favorite drink along with well thought out details like a custom recipe card, your new married name on bottle tags, glassware and straws for enjoying and voila you  have yourself one fabulous favor that is memorable and something that everyone will enjoy. Just pick your favorite liquor and get creative on the gift giving...Cheers!

a neon fiesta

Cindo de Mayo may have come and gone but that doesn't mean you still can't throw a colorful celebration for that special someone or for that upcoming special occasion  I personally am still smitten with the neon trend and especially love it in party decorations. The bright hues are instantly cheerful and uber festive, it just screams lets have some fun! Inspired by my for the love of etsy post I created a style board that is almost entirely available by fabulous etsy sellers. Check out all the neon goodness below and where you can purchase for your next fiesta!

Oh and just for fun, a little neon outfit inspiration too!

throw a stylish oscar party

Gather the gals (and fellas if they are willing) and throw an Oscar themed party to watch the big show. There are plenty of special touches you can do such as a signature champagne cocktail and setting a dress code urging your friends to be in their Sundays best. Serving stylish bite sized food allows everyone to snack freely.  Let's face it watching the movies these actors star in allows them to be so rich, so sit back and pour yourself a glass of champagne and enjoy! You know the stars will be sipping bubbly and probably drunk off one glass after weeks of fasting to fit in their skin tight gowns. A fun way to keep the guests interested in the show when it gets dull (aka during the behind the scenes awards of people you never heard of) is to place small wages on your best actor, actress & movie nominations. Below is an example of a stylish and fun fete with printable decor from one of my favorite blogs - Hostess with the Mostess.  And since the Oscars are just a little over a month away there is plenty of time to plan your own little soiree. I also included some additional fun decorations on how you can turn your house into a small replica of the famous event - happy planning!

Delish Champagne cocktail ideas can be found here!

Bold colors like yellow and black with modern shapes perfectly theme a fun night to watch the Oscars!

put all 2012 movie nominations on each wrap around

folding the napkin like a evening purse is easy & cute

serve the popcorn in all different flavors - I especially adore kettle corn

veuve clicquot's gold label bubbly is a perfect match to the theme & these cute little tags on your glasses will help you from losing your glass

if you choose to do a sit down dinner the table setting below is super elegant but you can also transform this into a fabulous buffet table for small bites to snack leisurely

Stylish Small Bites

crudités never looked so good in a baguette basket with individual dip
(no double dipping anxiety here)

individual 7 layer taco dip - adorable

mini spinach dip bread bowls

mini macaroni and cheese bites

a no bake dessert - holla!
nilla sandwiched cookies
(swap out sprinkle colors to match your parties theme)
