Nantucket Packing List

In a few weeks we are off for our our annual trip to Nantucket. Out of all the places in the world this little island is my absolute favorite. There are a million things to love about that gray little island, from it's uniformly beautiful town center filled with New England charm, great restaurants, multiple beaches and stunning real estate, it's easy to see why it's so loved from people everywhere. Since we will be there to celebrate the 4th of July my packing list is gravitating towards the patriotic color scheme. I mean after all it is the land of the preppy and all things Americana so I think sticking to the red white and blue will fit the bill perfectly!

Romper Room

Earlier in the season I tried on a jumpsuit and it was absolutely the most horrific sight I have ever seen on me. Despite looking absolutely ridiculous in them myself I was still drawn to the style of a one piece outfit. Like a dress it makes selecting an ensemble easy breezy and can be super comfortable. So when I purchased this jumpsuit, finally a onsie that I actually felt great in, I thought I would venture into romper territory. I personally am not a fan of anything too short but for those who have the gams to wear them, I think they can be very chic. I personally like the casual styles as a  beach coverup. A few of my favorites are below.

Winter Accessories

As Boston is about to welcome it's first snow fall I have come to realize how unprepared I am for the winter elements. I have no idea where my snow boots and pretty sure I threw away all my tattered gloves at the end of last season. This leaves me in a bit of a pickle as I have nothing to keep warm while roaming our lovely little city. While I was on the hunt to rectify this little hiccup I found some seriously adorable sets of gloves, scarves and hats that will help keep you roasty toasty all winter long. Below is a little round up of a few of my favorites. I know which ones I will be asking Santa for, but would love to know which is your favorite???

put a ring on it

I have been coveting a new right hand ring for some time right now but not sure exactly what I am wanting to adorn it with just yet. This beauty from one of my favorite local stores in Beacon Hill called Good has been lingering in my mind and might have to become part of my family asap. Cocktail rings are definitely a favorite of mine next to the beloved statement necklace and in my opinion the bigger the better but I know the dainty ring trend is huge right now so I threw a few of my favorites in the mix to give a variety of fabulous styles at all different price points. Which is your favorite???

fall checklist

Let's face it, fall is the best season for the wardrobe. While I love summer and truly do not want it to end it's hard to ignore the fabulous fashions hitting the shelves right now. When I select items to add to my wardrobe I always like to keep it simple and classic which usually translates into a lot of black and my favorite pattern, leopard. Usually in the form of a perfect pump, the one below is the perfect heal height for comfort and style {I own last years patent version}. A few wardrobe staples like a great blazer, classic white shirt, a cross body tote, sensible walking boots and some fun accessories that I would love to add to my wardrobe this fall are listed below.
What are your must haves come cooler temperatures???

Summer Style

Here's a little tid bit you may not know about me. When I was living in New York in my mid twenties I quit the corporate world and decided to give the fashion world a try. I started school at the Fashion Institute of Technology and became a store manager at one of my favorite stores Club Monaco. Even after my stint of working for this brand I am still smitten with their clothes. While I do not miss being on my feet all day, I do very much miss the generous employee discount. If I still had that little perk in my life some of their new arrivals would be finding themselves in my closet. In the beginning of every month they launch a new line of fashions and every now and then they really get it right like they did this July, it's soooo good. This stylish store has really become a one stop shop for everything you need to create an ensemble from head to toe. Oh and if you check out their look book when in store, you will see some very popular fashion bloggers {i.e. Sincerely Jules} sporting Fall 2013's most stylish looks. Check out some of my favorites below...which are yours???

dont forget to check out their chic beach shop for your holiday travels too!

Weekend Wear - My Go To Uniform

My usual weekend wear post is arriving a little early this week. Come Saturday I am craving an outfit that is casual and comfortable but also looks put together with ease. Nothing says that more to me then a striped top and jeans. Since Spring is finally present here on the East coast I decided to swap out the usual blue denim with some crisp white ankle length jeans along with a great lightweight cashmere sweater in a fabulous coral and navy color combination. Since the sweater has it's stripe on stripe pattern going on, I will forgo my usual statement necklace and pair this look with classic gold hoops. The classic trench is the perfect outwear rain or shine and really pulls the look together.

What do you find yourself wearing on repeat all weekend long???

Weekend Wear - Deja Vu???

I thought I would do a weekend wear post recycling some items from another post that I did when I started this series. It's important to recognize that creating outfits with new items each week is fun and a good tool for inspiration for creating your own personal look but it's also important to know how to reuse what you may already own and wear it from season to season. So I reused items featured on this blog more then once and created an entirely new outfit by swapping out jeans for a skirt and pumps for wedges  Two classic items that would get a lot of mileage in your wardrobe through Spring & Summer. I just love the look below for mixing all different sized stripes and yet not looking like the hamburglar.

Belt It Out - Part Two

While I have already shared my love of belts and their many purposes here. What I didn't include in that post was a statement belt to give your waistline a little added sparkle. I have a sparkly belt stowed away that I purchased a while back from Club Monaco that is still waiting to be worn and been thinking of ways to incorporate it with items I already own. Who says a sparkly belt has to be reserved for only your big day?! With all the options out there you can definitely adorn a bland ensemble with any of the beauties below. Which lead me to creating some different ways to show off the statement belts below in all different styles.

Color Crush - Gray

coat // necklace {DNS favorite} // shoes // sunglasses // ear muff's // clutch // sweater {have & love} // watch // skirt

I am not sure if it's the frigid winter days here in Boston or the simplicity of a neutral that pairs perfectly with so many other colors but I am having a serious gray moment lately. Every time I am shopping I am drawn to this foggy hue and noticing that my closet is getting filled with shades of gray again and again. The above is just a small sample of my latest favorites. That necklace is seriously haunting me with it's beauty and might need to move in with me asap. What color are you coveting lately???

Make A Statement - With Your Ears

When it comes to accessorizing I must admit I favor the statement necklace or a large cocktail ring over earrings. I all too often forget to remove the diamond studs that were gifted to me from my dad and have been wearing since I was sixteen. I also find when I do go for earrings it's usually only in the warmer months where a large chunky necklace feels oh so suffocating. I think summer attire is also all a bit more revealing around the decolletage area allowing a larger earring to be noticed. However I may break all by styling habits after my sister gave me a gorgeous pair of colored drop earrings this Christmas...however one rule I can never break is a statement earring/necklace combination - it's all too, too much for my taste, I prefer to pick one bold statement piece and minimize the rest so you don't look like your wearing your entire jewelry box. What do you think of these styles, would you wear this look???

Mix Well & Wear

Let's face it, the concept of mixing patterns and prints isn't always easy. There are endless combinations on how to wear this style and it's soooo hard to truly know if your look is on trend or a hot mess. I played it safe this summer by giving this concept a whirl with mixing rugby stripes and leopard and I have to say I loved it! It had me thinking of what other pairings would work together and if would I adore just as much...so I took on the challenge of mixing contrasting prints and  curated a few looks to help get you inspired for your next mix and matched ensemble! Which combo is your favorite???

wild wild west

Yesterday as I was walking out the door, my husband said my outfit looked a bit "cowgirl" which inspired me to dabble into a little fashion fix featuring a western style flair. This concept had me flashback to a family vacation back in the early 90's wheere we flew to Tuscon, Arizona to visit ASU for a possible college for my sister.  My father decided to combine the school visit into a family vacation for me and my siblings.  I remember being overly excited about the vacation because my we convinced our dad to rent a Lebaron convertible and seriously what was cooler then that??? In summary, the convertible was everything I had imagined {I am pretty sure there are numerous photos of me pretend driving buried in our family photo albums} the ranch where we stayed was beautifully landscaped with tons of cacti, horses were everywhere for riding and if my memory serves me correctly there was an indoor and outdoor pool, a win win sitch for ever ten year old. However the one thing I was not down with was the hiking of the desert mountains. I am pretty sure at the ripe old age of ten that I knew this wasn't my thing. I had a full meltdown, complained the whole way up and the whole way down, making my father want to send me on a flight back to NY to my mom who was enjoying her peace and quiet. If I had the chance to go back to do a ranch vacation all over. I think my attire would be similar to the below and instead of hiking sandy hills in the scorching heat I would thoroughly enjoy some spa time, horse back riding and drinking wine by an outdoor fire.

Bring some Western elements into your home with these fab finds inspired by the landscapes of the desserts. I adore the modern succulent tray featuring the miniature cacti. Jonathan Adler wins over my heart once more with his horn sculpture. An incredibly affordable cowhide rug is perfect for layering over larger solid jute rugs. Rope doesn't always have to be interpreted in a nautical sense, the mirror below reminded me of a cowboy laso which I think would work incredibly well in a south western style home. The gaucho print pillow boasts a modern flair on a vintage print and finally a great chair with lots of texture, nail heads and the colors of a sunset is the finishing touch to a beautiful wild west inspired interior.

Day to Date - Part Two - The Ensemble

So most work environments I know of or have been a part of do not allow a lot of fun  fashion in the office. So what is a gal to do??? I thought about it and figured if you can grab one or two extra pieces on your way out the door you can easily transition a day time look into a night time with little effort. A swap of the blazer for an embellished vest and a tote for a clutch or even changing up your shoes to something with a little more life can make your base outfit really stand out. You could even layer the vest under the blazer and just remove the jacket after hours!

style steals

Let's face it, most blogs out there feature all heavenly items that are just not realistically priced for the everyday gal or guy. I am guilty of it too. I mean who doesn't love a luxurious item to day dream about and treat yourself too every now and then but when it comes down to it, most items we all own and wear each day have to be wallet friendly. I compiled a list of some of my favorite styles that are all under $125 but don't look it one bit. Everything is summer themed to help add a little fun to your warmer weather wardrobe...enjoy!
