As we are halfway into our second year in our new home I still can't believe how I haven't made my mind up on so much of the decorating. One item that has been on my to do list was finding new dining chairs. Since we spend most of our time in the open concept main room where the kitchen, the living rom and dining room are all in, it seems sensible to have those pieces be first priority. Since we want to stay here as long as possible while we search for a forever home to purchase I still want the decor to reflect our personal style. So I am turning to you all for your insight and help in selecting a new chair for our main room dining. Our dilemma lies with all the varieties of wood in one room which has me leaning towards an upholstered chair to break up the off white kitchen, the dark mahogany built in's and coordinate it to the color of the table top. Which one of the six is your favorite???

Fall Fashion
I think it's safe to say that Autumn is a fan favorite when it comes to fashion. Bring on the layers, the sweaters and all things cozy. I wanted to do a little round up of some of my favorite finds for fall styles that won't break the bank. The best part is they are all from well known retailers like Madewell, J.Crew, Nordstrom etc. So go ahead & treat yourself before you start spending all your hard earned money on everyone else come the holiday season!

Take Me Away - Glass Cabins In The Woods
above photo was by my husband when we arrived
It may sound corny to some but we enjoy following the traditional themes for anniversary gifts for marriage. So when we celebrated our "wood" anniversary this past June marking five years of marriage, I was stuck on what to gift my sweet guy who spoils me in every way possible. I truly love giving a gift of an experience and stumbled upon this glass cabin in the woods. I thought this would be the perfect getaway for him to unwind from work and our everyday life in the urban environment we live in. I immediately booked the trip to be enjoyed during the fall and soak up all the autumnal splendor we could. Our little airbnb in upstate, NY {Hillsdale, NY to be exact} did not disappoint. It seemed we hit the best week of the year weather wise as well as for the change of colors on the trees that surrounded us. I however will not lie... the complete darkness and silence of night had this city girl shaking in her boots. I however wouldn't trade anything in the world for the beauty we were surrounded by during the day. Long mornings lounging fireside soaking up the slight chill in the air and the falling leaves all around us...it was heaven!
The home was beautifully decorated with vintage pieces everywhere. The open concept living with all the walls being glass really allowed you to feel like you were living outside in the woods. Everywhere you turned was a stunning view.
wouldn't an infinity pool on that little open land be perfection for summertime
a great big dining table for entertaining friends or family dinners
{a kayak suspended from the ceiling for water activities}
when your breakfast matches your view
the home was filled with rustic decor that gave it such a warm lived in feeling
how cute is this gallery wall, I especially love the shadow box filled with collars of beloved pets from their past, such a sweet keepsake for our furry friends
an adorable barn house that was for sale down the street
we explored some of the farm fields near our house, can you spot us?
Since the house was about twenty five minutes from Hudson, NY we dined there every night. While it's known for it's excellent antiquing and home decor shops {we loved Hudson Home, Lili and Loo, Regan & Smith, 3 Forty Seven & Hudson Supermarket}. There also is a major food scene happening there that is worth visiting. We loved every single meal we had.
Grazin Diner, our favorite meal of the trip was one of the best burgers we have ever had and it has a really awesome sustainable farming ethics as well as sources everything locally.
Swoon Kitchen Bar was our last meal and it didn't disappoint. We indulged in homemade pappardelle with local beef bolognese, fried artichokes and a crispy kale salad. We left very happy to say the least!
Hudson Food Studio was our first meal in this historic little town and the asian fusion food was incredible. We loved the ramen and the curry.
casual Mexican food at Mexican Radio for one night, we loved the chili and the spicy shredded chicken tacos
WM Farmer & Sons was by far the coolest restaurant we dined at. The ambience was fun and the food was stellar. Try the country ham board with homemade biscuits & pickles. It's divine.
image above is via Decorista, I forgot to photograph one when we were there
we hiked to Bash Bish Falls to see Massachusetts biggest waterfall
we visited Olana House at sunset to score some incredible Hudson River views

Etsy Love
Etsy can be a severely overwhelming place to shop, however if you know exactly what you are looking for you often can find exactly what you want, all while shopping small and often getting something custom made just for you. I often find myself turning to the site when I am planning a special event {examples A, B & C}. So while I usually share a theme of my Etsy favorites like this post for baby items or this one for home, pottery etc. However today is more of a random selection of some favorites that are just plain old pretty.
If we are friends on Instagram, you may have seen that I had a bit of a pumpkin addiction this fall. I love these calligraphy ones that make such pretty decor for Thanksgiving. I am thinking of ordering some mini's with the families names on them as place cards for seating.
I love these letter boards, they are such a fun way to leave messages for your kiddo or have in an office with some motivational quotes.
This little shop has the cutest mugs. I adore the funny one below but also think this one is super sweet for a new mom.
I love sending out cards but I always dread addressing them. I think it's time to invest in a personalized stamp to make things easier & prettier. Will be extra helpful with the upcoming holiday card extravaganza.
I have a serious soft spot for beautiful gift wrap, I absolutely love giving a gift that is wrapped up in something special. So when I saw this watercolor dog paper I knew I had to share it with you all...after all you all know my obsession with dogs!

Mom's 70th Birthday!

This past weekend in Connecticut we celebrated my mom's 70th birthday! While we love to throw a big party, she wanted to keep it a small intimate celebration with just the immediate family. That however didn't mean that we didn't plan a few personal touches to the weekend to help make this special occasion a little extra special. Since I got to be behind the planning, I worked with an artist to create a autumnal watercolor crest with our mom's initials in it. Since she is more known as Oma {German from Grandma} these days I used that in the birthday message.
When the family checked in I had monogrammed guest bags waiting on the beds filled with some of our mom's favorite snacks as well as some miscellaneous items in case anyone forgot the essentials.

Inspired by my favorite gifting company, I created three of these totes for my family.
The table centerpiece was created by Winston's of Greenwich. It is called the "Summer Berry'.
Gifts were wrapped in equally bright paper in an English rose print from Paper Source.
The seating was organized with white agate place card holder with each family members name written in white ink. Perfect for reusing for the holidays or making a coaster set out of.
Finally, we put together a video of for her that included lots of happy memories from the past 70 years with recorded messages from friends and family sending her birthday wishes! Happy Birthday Mom, we love you!
