Thirsty Thursday - Spiked Root Beer Float

My husband is quite the root beer enthusiast so I thought I would take tackle a recipe that would turn  the traditional root beer float into a dessert cocktail. I used what I had in the house but I heard from a friend that there is actual root beer vodka and whipped vodka that works well in this recipe too. Hope you enjoy this frothy goodness as much as we did. Cheers!

DNS day off

I have always wanted to keep my little corner of the internet a place for all things positive and nothing too serious, so today if you don't mind I will be taking a day off from my blog. A day to get my act together and get my head on straight. Without going into a lot of tedious life moments that aren't interesting I will leave it at this...I just need a day off from myself to catch my breath.

See you all back here tomorrow & thank you so much for reading!

Shopbop Spring Shopping Event

I don't know about you but my wardrobe is in desperate need of some refreshing and when there is a good sale like this one it's hard to resist the urge to not buy a few new things despite the weather still being frigid here in Boston. A few items in my shopping bag are below but I will likely narrow it down to a single item so I don't have to eat ramen for the rest of the month.

What items are you craving in anticipation for the warmer weather???

Dying over Elizabeth & James embellished sweatshirt jacket, I would live in this all spring. The perfect neutral color adorned with gold studs that would go with everything in the closet. A dressed up Juicy Couture tee in navy lace will pair perfectly under blazers or stand alone with jeans. I have long been coveting these over-sized Ray-Ban Wayfarers, I might have to finally purchase. Layering necklaces is easy breezy thanks to this Alexis Bittar beauty. A comfortable Kors Michael Kors wedge that will make your legs look longer and be comfortable for walking around - yes please! Mixing stripes and patterns in one easy look with this Nanette Lepore stunner. Can easily be dressed up with a blazer and sandals or down with flip flops.

Trend-spotting - Distressed Denim

I remember when I was a teenager and I wanted to so badly wear jeans with a ripped knee I decided to buy a pair of jeans and literally cut two circles on the knee caps hoping to have that naturally worn out look. Little did I know that was not the way to get properly distressed denim. So there I was out one pair of guess jeans with ridiculous round circles over the knees and a slightly crushed ego after my attempt of trying to be a trendsetter in the 10th grade. Luckily these days, denim is available in every color, fade and all different amounts of distressed levels. I personally love a single knee tear like this pair but some other great alternatives are below.

I love mixing feminine touches like a cap toe pump and pearl jacket with casual denim and edgier accessories like that cocktail ring. This is exactly how I would style a deconstructed denim yet chic look.

For the Love of the Weekend Getaway - NY Edition

Morning friends! John and I are back in the bean after an excellent few days in NYC and visiting my family on Shelter Island. If you are addicted to Instagram as much as I am, I apologize in advance as some of these photos have already been shared on my feed.

I arrived late Tuesday which in NYC means nothing in the city that never sleeps. Luckily we love to dine late and the meatpacking district where we stayed is chock full of exquisite dining choices. Beaumarchais was our first stop and it was absolutely ahhhmazing. We indulged in tuna and steak tartare along with truffled chicken and delicious strawberry puree sangria. It was heaven. Go there if your ever in the city, the french shabby chic interior and fun music {think Rhianna & Toto brilliantly mixed} along with the firecracker champagne bottles kept us totally entertained throughout the delicious meal.

While we usually stay at our beloved London Hotel. It was booked because of Social Media week. So we ventured downtown and stayed at The Standard in the super trendy meatpacking district. Our sassy studio was absolute perfection. We had views of The Hudson River, Empire State building and the high-line which meant that most of our walls were windows and resulted in a letter from management about visibility to the outside {whoopsies}. We indulged in tubs with a view, room service and watching some ice skaters right outside our door.

My main squeeze had to work the afternoon of my birthday so I was lucky to have a lunch date with another fellow from college of which we met at The Smith. We indulged in Blue Cheese fondue potato chips, German pretzels, and finished with champagne and cupcakes. A very well balanced meal.

I wasn't very good about taking photos the night of my birthday as I was following one of my resolutions and trying to stay off social media during special occasions - don't you think it's important to live in the moment??? I snapped a few quick photos of myself walking out the door along with my birthday present from DVF and the special dessert we had at the very fun Spice Market.  We indulged on coconut chicken soup {ridiculously delicious} and drank a few pitchers of the passion fruit sangria of which I will be trying to replicate to share with you all here on the blog.

John had to fly to DC the morning after my birthday so I headed to LI and got to meet my cousins new black lab Teddy. He is such a sweet boy and just like every puppy he loves and wants all of your attention. When he isn't getting what he thinks is sufficient amount of your time he can be quite destructive. Why are puppies even more adorable amongst their carnage???

I also drove past the house I grew up in. I was slightly annoyed to see that the new owners had cut down so much of our front yard {and abandoned all the gardening} never mind the hideous satellite which now takes residence on the roof. It's safe to say it was a bittersweet visit. While I still feel attached to the house that I always called home, it's been a long time since we all were within those walls together whereas Shelter Island is where we now gather for fun summers and holidays.

I couldn't resist some shopping in South Hampton and Roosevelt field. I was good and didn't purchase any of the below but if you know me, it took every ounce of will power not too.

Saturday night my folks took us out for dinner at my favorite restaurant on our tiny island, Vine Street.
We dined on their famous calamari salad, truffled rigatoni and drank blood orange margaritas to wash it all down. The grand finale was their heavenly sticky toffee pudding. After dinner we hit up another great island watering hole, restaurant and hotel La Maison Blanche where I put back one too many St. Germain Cocktails. It's pretty safe to assume that I woke up Sunday with a hellacious headache.

I have to admit, this past week made me feel like the luckiest woman in the world. Birthdays can really make you feel so special and loved. I am truly grateful for everyone I have in my life!

Weekend Wear - Wishing for Spring

I am seriously getting tired of my closet filled with dark clothes. I am craving some serious color and warmer weather in my life and one trend that is definitely on my radar is adding some more floral items. I adore the lady like coat below for it's soft pattern and neutral color palette. I would wear it with some ankle length skinny jeans in a paler hue along with my favorite statement piece, the sparkly necklace! I love mixing feminine items like big jewelry with edgier accessories like the studded clutch below. What are you craving this Spring???

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday friends!!! I am still on cloud nine after an amazing birthday in NYC. John returns from Washington D.C. today {yay!} after a very quick business trip and once he lands we are heading off to my parents home on Shelter Island to have a nice relaxing weekend and continue my birthday celebrations with a visit to my favorite restaurant on the island with my family. I have to admit I am most excited cash in my birthday hug from this sweet face!

What are you all up to for the weekend???

Isn't the above image adorable??? I had it custom made of our little enchanted island and had it framed for some fun, yet sentimental art in my nieces bedroom. I also used something similar on our guest totes during at our Newport, RI wedding. Similar styles here & here

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!

Oscar Attire

So we all know the Oscars are on this Sunday right??? I have to admit I usually fall asleep during the actual award ceremony {isn't it such a snooze-fest}. I do however love me some red carpet catwalk action with all of the ooh-ing and ahhh-ing over all the fabulous fashions. If I every had the opportunity to dress a starlet for one of these high fashion events, I would be sure to keep it simple & elegant like this look below.  I'm loving the simplicity of one statement piece of jewelry like that monster yellow diamond ring along with an edgier style dress, shoes & clutch.
Will you be watching???

Birthday Cake Martini

Looks like another year snuck up on me and unfortunately I am another year older! I am however happily celebrating my birthday today with my husband in my favorite city, NYC. Before I left to join John, I created a little cocktail for myself and luckily it was as delicious as I had hoped it would be. Which allows me to share it with all of you. I didn't get the chance to do this but I thought it would adorable and unique to cube some yellow cake with dots of funfetti icing and skewer a few cubes on a long toothpick on the martini to act as a garnish. Hope you enjoy it!

Product Round Up

Thanks to a few Sephora gift cards over the holidays I have been refreshing my beauty regimen and updating my make up bag with some new treats that truly make a difference in my appearance. While I have to admit I was never really into products, that is quickly changing as I get older and appreciate the magic that some of the finer products out there can truly do for my skin. Below is a round up of all my favorites and daily go to's that I cannot live without. What are your must have products???

Calypso St. Barth Perfumes are my absolute favorite, they are always light & fresh and never overpowering like most fragrances. I pair the vanilla with lavender for a warm soothing signature scent.

I have fairly dry skin year round. So I love using Dove with Shea Butter in the shower and immediately upon exiting while skin is still damp I lather on my beloved coconut body butter to lock in moisture.

Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion is my go to for the face at all times. While the St. Tropez gradual tan will give me a little glow without looking like I am unseasonably tan.

Since I have long hair I loathe having to blow dry it so I try to only wash 2-3 times a week. I absolutely couldn't do this without a stellar product like Moroccan Oil shampoo, conditioner & oil to keep my hair shiny and smooth.

Since I turn 34 tomorrow, I have incorporated some anti aging products into my daily routine. I find these Peter Thomas Roth un-wrinkle pads are the best out there & show the quickest results.

I am SO bad about washing my face every night, so I always stock up on Neutrogena make up remover wipes to quickly remove the days wear and tear on my face.

Benefit Cosmetics has been a long time favorite and my newest purchase of the "how to look the best at everything" kit has me completely smitten with it's contents. The combination of all these petite products in this kit truly gives me a less flawed complexion but also has helped my make up last longer.

The "they're real" mascara gifted to me by my sister has changed my eyelash length without clumping. It's amazing, get it.

"You Rebel" is my favorite tinted moisturizer of all time and I use in place of a foundation by mixing the light & the dark depending on the color of my skin that time of the season.

NARS bronzer in Laguna is a great sheer glow{hint of shimmer}over your face, just use in small amounts so you don't look straight off the jersey shore.

Bare Minerals blush in mauve lilac is a new addition that I am loving for it's color selection and easy application without looking like a clown.

MAC has always been my lipstick and gloss go to for as long as I can remember. My trusty neutrals are the Cremesheen Glass in the color right image and their lipstick in Angel.

Swim Season

I may not have any vacations coming up but I can't help but browse all the summery goodness hitting the shelves lately. Swimwear is more fashionable then ever and available in so many different styles to flatter all shapes and sizes. While I am most definitely not ready to strip down into a swimsuit I am ready for a little sun in my life and hope that this post will motivate me to get back into the gym and feeling somewhat good in a bathing suit this year. Last summer my sister purchased a paddle board & I am hoping to be giving it a whirl in one of those cute surfer tops & bottoms below!
