for the love of the weekend getaway - shelter island edition

I couldn't be more excited that a long weekend is upon us and I am off to see my family on Shelter Island. This sleepy little island located between the North and South Forks of Long Island is all things small town and as of lately it is exactly what the doctor ordered with my busy life. My husband has been in NY all week so not only do I get be reunited with my man, my brother and sister will also be visiting with my beautiful nieces who I know will have me laughing my tuckus off and giving me lots of material for future posts. I have no doubt the hubs will be MIA scooting around the island on his Christmas gift while I hopefully with mother natures help will be pool side with a tasty cocktail with my pup Khloe occasionally checking in for any snacks that we didn't consume or got dropped by the little ones. My mother is already whipping up all our favorites of which we call our "happy meals" that consist of her famous chicken cutlets and my dad has stocked the house with vino. It is going to be a glorious few days off and I am counting down the seconds to get home and start the fun. I hope you all have a great long weekend - Happy Memorial Day!

(a Christmas present I had framed for my niece Emma - the heart is where our house is)

If you ever find yourself on our lovely little island everything you need to plan your trip is listed below. It's not the Hamptons so leave the tude behind. Our island is laid back and no fuss!

Sleep

the "it" place on the island is only open in the summer and is often jammed pack with trendsetters and famous folk coming in off their yachts or getting out of their very expensive cars, expect great people watching, loud French music, expensive drinks and waiting a long time for your food, the ambiance is however totally worth it!

Recently renovated Inn features freshly styled bedrooms and is the newest on the island
