A Tale of a Sophisticated Twinkie

Since the demise of the Hostess empire, the beloved twinkie is no longer. I have to admit I probably haven't had a real twinkie since I was a kid but good god I do remember loving them. So last December my friend Kristin and I were at a J.Crew event where these heavenly miniature madeline twinkie styled treats were served to us on a bed of colored sprinkles. We loved them & tried to recreate for ourselves right away. Round one of recreating the recipe was an epic fail and I practically gave up until this past weekend when I felt ambitious and gave it another whirl. Well that is till I took a few short cuts and made it super simple for myself and more delicious by for anyone who had the chance to be my taste tester by avoiding the baking process of the cookie all together {hence the premade madelines pictured below}.

I used the recipe for the filling from here & purchased plain madeline's from Whole Foods bakery section. I trimmed off the madeline bump so they would lay nicely on one another. I also swapped out the sprinkles for crushed candy canes to make it a bit more holiday themed.

It was super sweet and we were only to each have one but I do love the way they look!
