Vacation with elephants? Yes Please!

I have mentioned many times on this blog my affinity for elephants. They are such sweet loving gentle giants that warm my heart. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw there are vacations for people like me in where you can stay in a luxurious tented camp in the middle of a lush jungle to be apart of these beautiful creatures world. I think I may have died and gone to heaven. Can you just imagine seeing those adorable creatures roaming around your resort or giving you a tour of their land? Its too good! Just take a look see for yourself at all the gorgeousness the Four Seasons Golden Triangle in Thailand has to offer...this is definitely a destination on my bucket list!

Mothers Day Gift Guide - Perfect Pairings

Moms are pretty special people and really deserve more than a day to be reminded just how wonderfully appreciated they are. So in honor of these women who do it all for their families I thought I would put together a fun gift guide but with a twist. Gifts with the perfect pairings. Check out all the details below.

card
Make your moms desk pretty with a monogrammed note cards and some pretty pens in a shiny mint julep holder. You can even write her a personal note on the stationary to let her know just how much she means to you so each time she uses it she is reminded that she is appreciated.

Who says tea parties have to stop when you are all grown up??? I personally love a high tea, especially when bubbly is involved and what is more special then making a sophisticated tea party for you and your mama, especially when she can keep the set!

Plan a Provence themed picnic equipped with all the luxurious necessities to make mom feel lost in the blissful French lifestyle.

I don't know a woman out there who doesn't appreciate some new jewelry for any occasion. I love the idea of giving the jewelry along with a stylish holder to have your gift stand out amongst the others.

Go halfsies with your gift giving and pick out a little something like a fabulous clutch filled with moms favorite beauty products and a personalized compact and a gift card to her favorite store so she can go shopping!

Perfume is always a favorite standby for any woman. Instead of buying the pre-packaged sets with little style or thought create your own little package of moms favorites.

Is your mama the ultimate hostess??? If so why not give her all the fixings to create a great cocktail. Afterall summer is around the corner and margaritas are the perfect drink to toast to mom & the warmer weather!

Happy Gift Giving!

Weekend Wear - Spring Essentials

Inspired by yesterday's post on style icons, I thought I would build a little list of some great wardrobe essentials come warmer weather. It's safe to say every woman has a little black dress in their closet that is their go to for any last minute events but what about a little white dress? The little Tibi number below is timeless in its classic silhouette and appropriate hem length. It's perfectly paired with a simple "go with everything" necklace and neutral sandal. Striped tee'swhite denim and a great trench go without saying but of course I had to include three that I love. A gauzy tunic with a little sparkle embellishment will always be a favorite of mine along with the a simple thong sandal along with a black one piece for swimwear, something that will never go out of style. Everyday walking flats an essential tote in a great grey color, aviators, red lipstick and a nice watch will perfectly accessorize any spring look effortlessly.

Style Icon

I think it's safe to say that most fashionistas have a muse for all their fashion inspiration. I know I certainly admire the styles of many fashionable women of the past such as Grace Kelly, Jackie O, Marilyn Monroe and so on. However my all time favorite source of timeless beauty hands down has to be Brigette Bardot. Not only was she french which instantly made her style look effortless and cool, she also kept her fashions very classic and timeless. She rocked a bodacious bump way before the jersey shore ruined it for everyone and she made bangs and pigtails look sultry instead of adolescent. Whenever I need some inspiration on a wardrobe decision, I try to turn to these style icons to help me think of style as something that should not be based on every trend under the sun but rather what has worked over and over again for years & years.
Who is your style icon???

don't forget to check back in tomorrow for a weekend wear showing wardrobe classics every gal should have in their closet for the welcoming of the warmer weather

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Rainy Days

Earlier this week Boston had some pretty grim weather with dark skies and chilly dampness in the air. If you ask me that is perfect sleeping in weather but it was only Tuesday, so up and at them I went. While my personal rain gear is head to toe black {shocking I know}, I would love to add some variety to my wet weather wardrobe and lighten things up with some more neutral colors. If I had the space to store yet another coat or boots I surely would be purchasing those fabulous riding style rain boots below and the feminine lace umbrella to create more of a chic look for the dreary wet weather.

Thirsty Thursday - Rose Gold Cocktail

This week's cocktail was inspired by one of my favorite wedding blogs 100 Layer Cake and their gorgeous inspiration shoot for a rose and gold wedding. All the soft colors and sparkly details had me weak in the knees and I instantly knew I wanted to recreate the cocktail they photographed for you all. While they didn't list what was in the  one they used on the site, I imagine it was a Rose Champagne with a sugar rim. I luckily  stumbled upon some glitter sugar last weekend in a cooking store and picked it up for future entertaining. I didn't have any rose in the house but I did have some Italian pink grapefruit soda and always in stock on our bar cart is our favorite prosecco. I mixed a little of these two together and was loving the sweetness of the sugar rim along with the tart grapefruit and hearty prosecco. It was a trifecta of flavor goodness. Cheers!

Ingredients

3 oz Prosecco {per glass}
1 oz Italian Pink Grapefruit Soda {per glass}
Gold Glitter Sprinkles

Directions

pour a little italian soda in a shallow bowl as adhesive for sugar rim
pour sprinkles in a shallow bowl for rimming your glass
dip your champagne glass into the soda then the sugar and twist the mouth of the glass in sugar to cover the entire rim in the gold sprinkles

carefully fill rimmed glass with champagne, let the fizz settle then pour in pink grapefruit juice

I served with some creme brulee almonds and on my new pretty rifle paper company coasters.

Enjoy!

dessert in a jar

Friends are you totally sick of my mason jar posts yet??? I promise this is my last one for a long while. I am concerned I may have a problem as I can't seem to stop purchasing these babies in every size available. My reaction each time I see one is almost equal to that of seeing a puppy on the street. I must stop, look at & play with. Last weekend while in Portsmouth, NH for the day I stopped in a cooking store and picked up these mini jars knowing I wanted to do something with them for the blog. Originally I thought a homemade face scrub but then I remembered I am super lazy and barely wash my face at night so I wouldn't be true to myself in that department. Then I thought flavored sugar for cocktails but they took some time to infuse the flavor into the sugar and I am also pretty impatient so that was a no go. Finally I decided on a strawberry crumble. Mostly because I had everything I needed for it in the house and I have a serious sweet tooth.
Below is how it all went down - enjoy!

Crumble Ingredients

1 stick non salted butter
1 cup flour
1 cup oats
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Filling Ingredients

2 pints strawberries quartered
{I used one for this post since I was making a half portion}
1/2 cup sugar
 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
dash of cinnamon

Directions

Mix all crumble ingredients together in a bowl and thoroughly blend with a fork till the butter forms small pebbles throughout.

Mix all ingredients on the washed berries till evenly blended.

Layer crumble into the bottom of the mini mason jars then add strawberry filling then top with crumble again.

Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees
{I put my crumbles on baking sheets as to catch any drippings}

makes 6 mini crumbles
p.s. add vanilla ice cream on the side for extra indulgence

Summer Style

As I enter the homestretch of my last two weeks in the corporate world I can't help but have one thing on my mind and that is summertime. I am dreaming of days of being poolside or the beach and wearing nothing but a bathing suit and cute cover up all day long. Since we spend most of our summers on Shelter Island you will likely find me being casual 24/7 but that doesn't mean being fashionable is thrown out the door or that you need to empty your wallet to look fabulous. All these looks below are well under $100 and available in a variety of sizes - a little something for everyone!

French Style At Home

image
image
John and I often dream about living in another country and France always comes up as a favorite for both of us. While we have only been to Paris together I was lucky enough to travel through the countryside with my family when I studied abroad one summer during my college days. After a lovely week in Paris we headed towards the beautiful champagne region called Reims. Dont you think there is just something so intriguing about the way the french live that draws me in??? I believe so and it often has me imagining a small chateau style home with views of rolling hills with lots of vintage doors and windows that open to a breeze that keeps the house naturally cool. A simple yet stylish kitchen that is filled with fresh herbs, tons of baguettes and where rose is always chilled....now tell me that doesn't that sound like absolute bliss???  But here I am in Cambridge, MA writing this post and realizing that this daydream is unlikely unless I bring some of those elements to New England. Luckily about a week ago I attended West Elm's opening of their Market line in Boston and I noticed a plethora of french inspired items that you can add to your home for a little more of that luxury lifestyle.
